Title: Pleasantly Surprised! My .25 SynRod likes the New H&N Grizzlies!
Post by: jhm757 on June 18, 2015, 11:07:32 PM
Haven't been shooting much lately, a careless driver ran a red light and totaled my car and broke my left wrist, and I shoot left-handed!!! :o

But I had ordered 4 tins of the new .25 H&N Grizzlies and they came in today.

After I ordered them I read a post where someone said the Grizzlies shot shotgun patterns out of their MRod at like 25yds so I was kind of bummed thinking I had 4 tins of pellets coming that weren't going to work well in my SynRod.

Well broken wrist or not I had to go out back and give them a try.

The winds today were not making things easy either, like shooting with a broken wrist wasn't bad enough, the winds were crazy, constantly changing, direction and speed, and then occasionally no wind at all for a minute or 2 then right back to my wind ribbons standing straight out.

The first thing I did was take a few shots at a 4 inch square of metal I have hanging in a tree at 100yds and I hit it every time!!! ;D So now I'm thinking maybe these Grizzlies are going to be Ok.

Next I set up the target at 50yds and set up the chrony at 1 yd the 31gr grizzlies were shooting a little over 900 fps and I could see a little spiraling going on, 8 shot groups were 1 to 1.5 inches not too good but the wind definitely was a factor.

Next I moved the target in to 30yds and turned the speed down to 850fps.  Seems the wind was not nearly as much of a factor at 30yds.

The first picture shows three 8 shot groups all shot at 30yds, first group on left at 850 fps, next group at 900 fps and the group opens up quite a bit, and the third group at 875 fps and the group shrinks again.

Same thing with the JSB King Heavies, they shoot much better in my SynRod at 850 than they do at 900.

The thing that really surprised me is that at 30yds and 850 to 875 fps the H&N Grizzlies actually seem to shoot at least as good if not maybe a little better than the JSB 25.39gr or 33.95gr Exact Kings. :o

Also there is a couple pictures of 8 shot groups at 50yds and 875 fps. Not great but the winds were challenging. :-[

The black nine ring on these targets is the size of a Dime.
