Title: Slimmer valve stem for XS60c/QB7x
Post by: MartyB on June 17, 2015, 10:02:37 AM
I'm working on some mods on my XS60c (FDPCP).
While most of the valve mods are fairly easy, I don't have a lathe to reduce the diameter of the valve head.
There just isn't that much clearance between it and the valve body and I want to improve the airflow there.

If anyone has  mountainair delrin or teflon valve stem, is there more clearance, aka is it slimmer?
Or will I still need to find a way to slim that down?

Thanks!

If you want to reduce the diameter of the poppet, you can do it with a hand drill and Dremel tool.  Chuck up the stem in the drill, and clamp the drill to your work table and turn it on.  Use an emory wheel in the Dremel to abrade the outside diameter, with the two spinning opposite directions.  Finish by dressing the surface with progressively finer grits of sandpaper.

You can substitute a file in place of the Dremel tool, but be advised there is a greater chance for the poppet to grow out of round.

That is how I do it. However, be careful not to get it hot, or it will ruin the seal.
