Title: .22 M-rod for $300?
Post by: tjcib on June 13, 2015, 05:00:41 PM
Local guy on CL selling. Has original receipt and packaging from a local outdoor store.

Everything seems pretty mint, no problem I could detect on inspection.

Any reason to not buy it for $300?

Sounds like a very nice deal.
Is it still under warranty?
Have you filled the tank and checked for potential functional issues?

First gen had .22 barrel accuracy problems.  Not sure the cost to remedy that.

There can't be too much wrong with it that a new barrel ($29 per Motorhead above) and some o-rings couldn't fix.  GRAB IT!

Well, someone apparently told him he was selling it for way low. He initially had it listed at $250. Apparently some guy (maybe read "local gta member") also showed interest and he brought the price up.

I went over there, filled it up and went through a couple magazines. Accuracy doesn't seem to be an issue. Shooting off a bag I had one hole of 6 shots. It was a little elongated horizontally, but that was clearly due to not being used to that trigger.

Bottom line, I got it for $325.

Now the task of deciding which I like better, my Disco (which is quieter than this mrod right now) or this new M-Rod. Luckily, my wife and kids are gone for the next week to a wedding, so I'll have plenty of time.
But she does expect there to only be one rifle here when she gets back... Haha...

I wish I got to him last night and took it for $250. But oh well...

I figured someone else in town saw it too...

You still did okay @ $325 that is $115 less than you can find a new one for  ;)

You did great!  And you got to try it out for accuracy before you bought too.  It sounds like you got a good one (at least it likes the pellets you tried).

You should be able to tune to get the noise level down.  I bet the power is up pretty high and you might be wasting air too.

Marauders (especially with wood stock) tend to be a little heavy - certainly compared to a Disco, but you get a magazine, shroud, and a nice trigger - which you can adjust to your liking.  You might want to check if it still has the lawyer spring on the trigger.  Removing that is usually the first thing to modify on any M-rod rifle.

I was surprise how much louder it was than my Disco. But I know very little about Marauders. So now comes the fun part...taking it apart, shooting it over the chrony, etc.

I will admit, shooting it was kind of like dancing with someone other than your wife...you don't quite feel right...

TJC,

I'm out on vacation for 2 weeks starting today. But If you need any help with the mrod let me know. I know a couple of things to make it quieter. Also, The power might just be cranked up. Also, look up HillGSA mrod 22 tune guide, he does a great job writting up the how to's and he uses the same procedure I use which I find to me the quickest way tune the mrods.

Hope this helps.

Also look at my signature and ready the mods to the my shroud on the mrod .25. Very easy to make and they help alot.

Thanks for the tips.

Perhaps in July we can get another RVA (Richmond, VA...not rear velocity adjuster) shoot set up. It was fun last time and we can test out new toys.

Do you have something (LDC, moderator, etc) aftermarket on your Disco to quiet it?  if not I would think there is no WAY the m-rod would be louder than the Disco unless all the baffle cones have been removed or something.  And even then...
