Title: Short review of my new 25 Mini-rod from Wicked Air Rifles
Post by: RayK on June 13, 2015, 01:48:44 PM
Hi all!

I was not using my 22 caliber P-rod much any more. Travis (OldPro) at Wicked Air Rifles told me he converted his P-rod to 25 cal and had fallen in love with it all over again. So I gave him mine and my spare 25 caliber Green Mountain Marauder barrel (we left it full length at 20 inches) and asked him to converted my 22 P-rod into a very custom 25 caliber carbine he is now calling the "Mini-rod" and my short review is: I love it!

It is so accurate! I have owned several P-rods and none have been anywhere near this accurate. It will put pellets exactly where I aim out to 40 yards.

It is tuned for 16 very consistent shots (2 magazines) from a 2100 psi fill. Pellet velocity with 25.4 grain JSB KIngs runs between 690 fps and 720 fps. That is about the same velocity I tuned my P-rod when it was 22 caliber, but these heavier 25 caliber pellets pack so much more punch at that same velocity.  I recently read a post from someone saying "who would want a 25 cal that shoots 30 FPE?"  Well this one works great - at least for squirrels out to 50 yards which is 95% of what I do with my airguns.

I bought an AR style stock from Travis and installed to improve the cheek weld and ergonomics and looks.

I got first blood with it two weeks ago shooting a squirrel and a starling (had my 6-24X56 scope for bench-rest accuracy testing) but it still needed to install a light weight scope for field hunting.  I also added a single point sling and carry it from my right shoulder. From there, it is an easy swing up to shooting position. 16 shots is what we used to get in our 25 M-rod rifles. It still gives quite a few kills, but I need to head back to the fill station more frequently now.

Last week, I took it out again and killed 7 squirrels and one starling with 8 pellets - every shot was a kill. Longest shot was 35 yards and closest shot was 10 yards with most around 30 yards.

Thank you Travis! And I hope more of you folks consider making this amazing transformation of 22 P-rod to 25 Mini-rod.

Mine looks just like FamilyMan's mini-rod (he posted pictures in another thread) but without the bipod. It no longer has a shroud, but has an ultra-light LDC made by Rocker1 from Florida who I met right here on GatewayToAirguns.  Rocker1's LDC works great!  I now have three of his LDCs (BAM B50, XS60C PCP, WAR 25 Mini-rod) and they are top quality and ultra light with no clipping attached securely with three (grub) set-screws.
