I was looking at these on some websites. I am not an accomplished break barrel shooter. I was thinking about the 22 caliber version. I have a couple of questions for you more experienced springer and nitro piston shooters.
For those of you that have shot springers AND gas piston break barrels, can you tell me how much difference in loudness, and recoil there really is? I would be doing all my shooting on our one acre lot, and do not want to have an air gun that sounds like 22 long rifle going off. I know the scope that comes with this air rifle is not too good. How do owners like this Benjamin Titan? How does yours group at 25 yards? Is it very picky about pellets? Reliability?

Not familiar with the Titan but my Benjamin Trail NP has a shrouded barrel and is pretty quiet and little recoil noise. Probably can get quarter size groups at 20 yards. My Hatsan Edge is a springer and had a little vibration spring noise at first but smoothed out after breaking it in. The synthetic stock was a little hollow so I upgraded it to the walnut stock and shoots smoother. That gun is very accurate and can shoot dimes at 20 yards. I personally found to like the lower powered springers better and after a lube tune can be very quiet and accurate with the reduced recoil.

My Titan is pretty quiet and very accurate...if you can shoot it...I have decided to try to sell it because of how hard to shoot it is. But when I do get my hold and follow through right man can it stack them! The included scope is bad, I never even used it as it is so blurry. I like the gas piston better than the spring, it is MUCH smoother...

My much reworked Titan NPGP id now a good shooter....when I discovered this site a few years agp and learned about the break pivot bolt adjustment technique, it would shoot less than an inch at 18 yards..
The two biggest improvements were finding a flaw in the barrel that caused weird accuracy issues at 20 yards and farther and the GRT-III drop in replacement trigger...also a trock called.soft bedding helped alot too..
All the low end break barrels (-$200) and most pricier verson too, take some work to.get the most they have to offer and to insure a long life....
The airgin in my avatar picture is what my Titan looks like today and the listing in signature is a higlight of the work that has been done to it

Same here. Deburred, honed, and polished. Brass barrel pivot washers. Setscrew to keep the pivot bolt from turning. Vinyl barrel shroud. Not a GRT trigger, but I made my own parts with the same geometry. Stock mods. Nothing helped, until I whacked 3"off the end of the barrel. Now it's decent.

mine had a weird lip in the barrel just inside the muzzle...
took some hard core recrowning work to get down past it..then I did some sketchy hand lapping to deburr the muzzle...now it shoots at least as well as I can...

My sons Friend has one in .22. I mounted the scope on it for him and sited it in. was getting about 1 inch groups at 30 yards if I remember correctly. Hits real hard too. Think the fps were in the 8's. I was impressed with it, think it has a lot of potential. At least that one does.

I have the Benjamin Titan NP in .177. I haven't upgraded to the CDT trigger, instead I tried the longer screw mod and it did help a little with the trigger. I also bought the brass pivot washers for the barrel and a 4-16x40 scope. The scope is overkill with this rifle, a 4-9x40 is more than enough. I can shoot 2 liter plastic coke bottles at 40 to 50 yards maximum. And it shoots hard, it easily goes all the way though water filled plastic coke bottles at this distance. However, at 60 yards the rifle becomes useless because it shoots all over the place, maybe the CDT trigger would improve accuracy at longer ranges.
Regarding noise, I don't have a springer to compare it with, but mine is a lot quieter than a .22LR.

My Titan is quiet but I can never hit anything with it. Sometimes its accurate but mostly no. Real low noise though. Its a shame because I always wanted that rifle.

from personal experience with a Titan GPNP .22 which is what the "Black Gun" in my picture actually started out as..
FIRST..
get a wooden dowel and push a pellet down the barrel...should have some snug spots along the way and get tight for the last inch or so....make sure the pellet exits smoothly.....mine had a pop pop as first head and then the skirt left the barrel....that is wrong and points out a flawed muzzle crown...this can be fixed with work if you want to deal with it....this was effecting accuracy beyond 18 yards...
SECOND..
clean the barrel and research this site for PIVOT ADJUSTMENT...when new my Titan shot "minute of dinner plate" at 10 yards and got set in the corner to rust...a year later I found this site learned about pivot screw adjusting and 10 minutes later it was stacking pellets at 10 yards...
Third..
research SOFT BEDDING...15 minutes of this turns the forward and back rocking of the shot cycle into a straight back pulse...
FOURTH...
if you have one with a trigger stroke that you can measure with a calendar ( mine was nearly 3/4 and would vary by as much as 3/8")...get a GRT-III accept no subsititutes and the "cheap mods ($8 for a freaking bearing to use as a SHIM?!?!? are you KIDDING ME?!?!?!) these replacement triggers are easy to drop in and are worth 3 times the cost...
FIFTH...
the basics....clean, deburr, hone, lube, add brass washers and high quality stock screws with blue Loctite...
SIXTH
a CP 3-9X32 scope..this light weight scope works well with this gun...
these guns seem l to like JSB 18.1gr pellets and will do alright with Crosman HPs or Destroyers if the tin you have is "from a good batch"..PS not too sure how well Destoyers will do past 30 yards...when I was shooting at 50 yards I was using HnN FTTs which are also a possible for down range accuracy in the Titan .22
SOUND..about as loud as a FIRM hand clap....mine with the BnM LDC is cat sneeze quiet...the pellet impact though, is a different story...THWHACK
addendum...research Optical Centering and Barrel Bending and USE them...
