Title: Broken Ruger Impact .22
Post by: josixpack on June 04, 2015, 01:59:02 PM
I have a Ruger Impact .22 which I really like.  I know it’s an off the shelf $139.00 springer but compared to my friends Beeman R9 which he has been letting me use, it doesn't seem that much different other then the noise my Impact is making now.

I’ve got 1500+ rounds though it and the other day I noticed a noise in the main tube after firing.  It sounds like there is something sliding back and forth.  If I break the barrel but do not cock the gun it doesn’t make much noise and if I cock the gun the noise is gone all together and the gun still fires.  I don’t have a chrony so I can’t tell if the velocity is affected.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?  I’m thinking maybe a broken spring??  I’m going to see if I can swap it for a new one and if not I guess I’ll have to deal with Umarex or maybe try and tear it down.

I would advise against shooting it with something loose in the tube. A loose peice of material could potentially cause more damage every shot cycle. If you go the warranty route, make sure you are clear on shipping charges and how much Umarex will charge if the spring is broken since springs are not usually warrantted. If you are at all mechanically inclined, you might consider opening it up yourself.
Good luck.

There is a sleeve inside the piston . If it is sliding back and forth either the sleeve is broken  or you have a broken spring. More than likely a broken spring. The gun disasembles pretty simple with a spring compressor. Basically like a rws 34.

I'm thinking maybe the sleeve as that is what it sounds like.  There's a lot of movement which I'm not sure you'd get with a broken spring.  I don't have a compressor but I'm sure I could build one.  If I can't return it, my old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.

Is the sleeve something I can purchase if that's the problem?

Thanks for the input!

When i bought mine a couple of months ago i shot it about 25 times. Then took it apart to check the over all condition of the insides. When i pulled the spring out of the piston the sleeve came with it. The end had two dimples on it . Dont know what there for. Tried twisting the sleeve to lock it in place, but never found a place that it locked. The reason it maybe a broken spring is a broken end could have hooked into the sleeve and let it move. Dont know if you could get the sleeve or not. I assume you could. I cleaned and deburred mine. Lubed it good and probally put 300 pellets thru it before finding a pellet it likes. Was ready to give up on it. About 500 shots thru it now. No problems so far. Hope this helps, Andy.
