Title: Leupold LR duplex reticle - the poor man's mildot.
Post by: DanD on June 04, 2015, 12:08:18 PM
Hi all,
I sent my Leupy 3-9x33 efr in for service to take care of a misaligned ao ring. While it was there, I figured I'd spiff it up a little with a mildot reticle. That is until they quoted me $160 plus tax. It seems they tack on a $30 labor charge to their reticle prices for work on customer scopes. So I checked the custom shop and found the LR duplex for only $40 plus labor. It has two dots and a slightly tighter thin crosshair area than the regular fine duplex. Once I use it some, I'll probably post something to the review gate about its functionality. In the mean time, here's a picture.

How is this working out for you, I'm thinking of getting one. Is the crosshair too fine? Does it come with a regular crosshair?
I was also wondering about the LRV Duplex which is a dash instead of a dot.
Leupold website has been down for days, can't get ahold of them. Thanks.

Hi, George. Thanks for asking. Honestly, I haven't done much more than sight in the rifle that's wearing that scope, but now that hunting season here, that should change. The crosshair thickness seems about the same as the fine duplex and works great for aiming at a pellet hole without obscuring it. I haven't experimented with the dots yet, though.

It's hunting season, so I've been shooting the R9 with the two-dot LR Duplex reticle. I am pleased with the extra aim points. Right now, the rifle is sighted in at 25 paces with FTT @ 865fps. I shoot starlings off of two silos- I can't remember the exact distances, but I think it's 50ish paces to the near silo, and 62ish paces to the far silo from from my regular shooting position. POA for the near silo @9x is the 1st dot, and POA for the far silo is the 2nd dot. That's the functionality I wanted- extra aim points for long range pest control and plinking.
