Title: I have an inkling...
Post by: YEMX on May 30, 2015, 01:30:46 PM
That the Prod's valve and the Discovery's valve are very similar; the Prod's valve is made to clear the Prod's breech screws, the Disco does not.  The two valves look similar in every other regard.  Are the the valve retention screws in the same place between a Prod and a Disco? Are the transfer ports in the same place between the two valves? Are the poppets of similar length/design?  I like the Prod's breech design and how it attaches than the disco's. Thanks for the help!!  I've got the gears cranking for another project idea...  Not sure if it's going to work though.

Dang... I was really hoping they would be more similar.

Yea, it would be nice if they did.   I posted this on YF for you:

"The disco retention screws are in line with its TP. The Prod/1720T/1701P valve the retention screws are about 5/16" further toward the cocking bolt, away from the tp. If you drilled new holes for the prod retention screws, it would touch into the existing. You would also have to drill the four holes for the breech screws. Precision drilling these holes in a tube, was beyond my caveman tools and capabilities."

So, the only differences are the retention screw hole locations and the holes for breech retention?  Is the OAL of the valve also different?

The hammer cocking and sear slot were same.  I was just trying to use the disco tube in a prod rifle, so don't know about the oal of a disco valve.
