Title: hawke or viper, which one wins
Post by: s500 on May 26, 2015, 06:47:15 PM
OK, so I am wanting to get a new scope for my air arms s500. Been looking at the hawke sidewinder tactical 4.5 - 14 x 42 and the optisan viper 3-12x 44 scb. I really like the reticle on the viper. However I have a hawke endurance scope that is really clear on my tx mk 3. Can anyone help me make a decision on these two scopes. I have heard great reviews on both. Thanks in advance, planning to pull the trigger very soon. Just waiting on you guys advice.

Have the SAME 4.5x14-42 Hawke ... Viper in 4x16-50

Viper ranges better IMO ... Both @ same weight & size ... Hawke VERY fine 1/2 dot a better Target scope but lost in brush or busy backgrounds ... Viper makes a better hunting scope due to SCB reticle.

BOTH being on "Hunter" class FT rigs ... given a choice one over other ... VIPER 4x16 ;D

IMO the 4x16-50 is the Superior scope to the 4x12-44 having had both.

So do you consider the optisan scopes to be of equal quality as the hawke scopes?

Can't speak of the "OPTISAN" line or that of "HAWKE" either ..... Stating between a Tac-30 and Viper ONLY.
Having both quality & build design seems very similar.

From what I've read they are both good scopes,
that both should make you happy, I'd go through and see if there is
any differences you like more on one than other(reticule, weight etc.)
and go from there.
