;D The Hawke sidewinder is a good scope and mine works flawlessly clear optics and the etches cross hairs are perfection for target shooting

+1 on the Hawke sidewinder 30. I love the fine cross hairs. It only has about 8000 rounds on my AA PS so time will tell.

If I was buying a 6 or 7 pound bullpup the scope would also be light. Check out the Hawke Varmint 6-24 x 44. Weights 18 oz and is side focus, Buds Gun Shop on line has Hawke scopes on sale often. You can make an offer if you open an account at Buds.

Talk to Jeff from Trenier Outdoors! He is a site sponsor and a great guy to do business with. I ordered my last scope from him and plan to do more business with him in the future!
He sells both the optics you are inquiring about. In fact I remember him telling me he is running a Genesis 5-20x50 on one of his personal rifles...

Have Hawke Tac-30 4.5x14-44 in 1/2 dot reticle and the Optisan Viper 4x16-50 in SCB reticle .....
Target work with a clean uncluttered target / background ... The Hawke gets the nod.
Get into the brush, lower light or cluttered background the Vipers SBC wins hands down !!
Using EACH at 12X for "Hunter class FT work" the Viper snaps in/out of parallax focus better then the Hawke.
Weight, Eye relief, Turret fiddling etc very similar between them.
** Ranging however on the Hawke 20X IS ONLY 1/2 DOT at 20X and becomes 1/2dot = full dot at 10x power.
pending use ? ... this could be deal breaker.

Welcome to the GTA 8)!!

I have 3 Hawkes with 1/2 mil dot reticles ( 3-12 Varmint, 6-24 SW, & 6.5-20 SW Tactical) & 1 Viper 3-12 with the SBC reticle. I personally like both brand of scopes. The Optisan(MTC) scopes are usually cheaper than the Hawkes if that makes a difference to you. I'd pick the one that I liked the reticle better. Either one & you won't go wrong.

Little late to the party, but I have both Greg.
6-24x56 Sidewinder w SR Pro reticle and 6-24x56 Viper.
Glass almost the same.....very good.
Turrets on my Hawkes are mushy....hardly 'click' at all.
Turrets on the Vipers have a MUCH better feel.....very positive clicks.
Eye relief is a bit more critical on the Vipers.....more forgiving on Hawkes.
Hawkes range much better.
Viper reacts better when making small adjustments.
I like both reticles very much.
Both are very good and you can't go wrong with either.
Wyverncreations for Hawke and Jeff at Trenier for Viper.
If a hunter I would go for the Viper.
Target....Hawke.....
PS.....Jeff sent me a Genesis to check out when I was looking for another Viper.....I returned it and got the Viper. I liked the reticle on the Gen, but the glass was sharper on the Viper.
Let us know which way you go and Welcome!!
