Title: Phantom .17 severs cottontail spine. *GRAPHIC*

I know I can already hear it. "It's not rabbit season in Missouri." Well, the jokes on you. The Missouri Wildlife Code states that you can kill any animal destroying your property as long as you harvest the animal on your own property as long as it is not an elk, deer, turkey, waterfowl bird, cougar, or black bear. Swallow that info pill and don't choke on it on the way down. The cottontails were getting into the elephant ear plants and eating at them. Today I mowed the lawn, I have learned that the rabbits won't come out into the yard if the grass is overgrown. I think they like to eat the grass shavings. This cottontail was at about 30 yards, but when he saw me he ran in to about 15 yards where I laid the hammer to him. I aimed dead on right behind his eye. I shot and the pellet hit him where his spine met his skull. He reared like a rodeo bronc, flicked his front legs and stopped moving. I went inside and got my knife. I skinned his skull out to see what happened in there and saw major damage. I can see why he wasn't going anywhere, I'll let the picture show you.

Nice one Parker.

Just goes to prove what I always tell people.  If all I got is a spinal shot & it's anywhere between the nape & shoulders of an animal I got no issues taking that shot  at all. It'll drop them right there. Worst case scenario is the animal is immediately disabled allowing for an effective follow up shot, best case scenario, it'll be DRT
