Title: Hunting Jackrabbits in 112 degrees
Post by: crosman999 on April 29, 2015, 11:49:20 PM
Decided to head out late this afternoon for a hike into the desert.Brought close to a gallon of water in my hunting bag as it was HOT. I walked about 6mi and decided to rest under a nearby Joshua tree for some shade. There I was able to spot several circling around my area without notice to me. Was able to take 3 within about 50yrds. The last one came an hour later about a mile away at way past my skill level. My best guess was 130/140yrds. First time in awhile I have gotten more than two.(http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y468/danawebbs/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsk15lrn1v.jpg) (http://s1276.photobucket.com/user/danawebbs/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsk15lrn1v.jpg.html)(http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y468/danawebbs/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsr1w2lwlc.jpg) (http://s1276.photobucket.com/user/danawebbs/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsr1w2lwlc.jpg.html)

Real nice shooting.  So you were saying you got the last one about 130/140 yards or so???  That's some real nice shooting.  Did you nail the long one with the first shot, but did it take a couple to get him dialed in?

Wow!  112 degrees, that's just a touch on the warm side:)  Any idea what the humidity was at the time?  Probably pretty low I'm guessing.

I had a good idea it would be a little over 4 milldot holdover. I never usually hunt that far but plink just for fun at that range..The only thing I had going for me was lack of wind. As far as humidity goes, didn't seem like any to me. I'm used to heat like that,I can't stand the cold though.

SteveO helped me figure the range on chair gun and came up with a bit over 120yrds on the last Jackrabbit.  8)

;D Impressive shooting and if you want to send some of the extra heat to the right coast to bring it up a little. We can use about an extra 20 or 30 around here to a nice comfortable 80* ;) ;D

You hush that talk :D  You know what's going to happen.  That extra 20 or 30 degrees is just gonna end up leaking down south and fry the heck out of us ;D  If it hits 112 degrees here with the high humidity we have; we'll all fry.  Even in the shade we'll fry :)

I swear, some days in August I can hear meat frying like bacon.  And that's coming from the people walking around.  Only problem is, it don't smell like bacon :o

Some days in July and August my guns won't even fire.  I can hear my bullets and pellets inside the barrel  saying, "sh!iii!t I ain't going out there, its to hot".
