In early March I ordered a 125 vortex from Pyramid air. The first couple of weeks the rifle seemed to be working fine. I was able to shoot a couple hundred of rounds through it. I was starting to get used to it. I'm not the greatest shot but I was consistently able to hit cat food cans at 40 yards that I have set up in my back yard. Then last weekend all of a sudden it became real easy to cock and starting shooting all over the place. On Monday I contacted Hatsan customer service. They issued an RMA and had me sent the rifle back. I was able to get the rifle shipped out on Wednesday. This afternoon they emailed me and said they had to replace the piston seal, the piston and the breech seal. They covered it all under warranty. They also said they test fired it after the repair and it was shooting 1/4 groups at 10 yards and averaged 955 fps. They sent another email with a fed ex tracking number. This was my first Hatsan. I am really disappointed I had trouble so early but I'm glad they fixed it. Now I'm excited to get it back to see how it shoots.

Issues with seals are well known on the Hatsans. There also seems to be more issues with the Vortex pistons popping up lately.
On replacing the piston? The seal is on the piston and most likely they do that to save time.
Glad your fixed and hope they cleaned the chamber when they installed everything.

+1 on the Hatsan seals!
The 1st thing I do after acquiring a Hatsan is strip it down, clean it, touch up some of the inner surfaces, install a new ARH or Vortek seal, apply Krytox & then put it back together. Warranty be darned if it's brand new. I simply won't fire a newly acquired Hatsan any more without 1st checking it over. Really don't want to deal with returns. PA is great! As is Rick Eutsler! But I'd just rather not bother.
Good luck on your replacement. But be sure to monitor it as well. Don't take anything for granted. Establishing a FPS/FPE baseline with your favored pellet once you receive the replacement would be helpful in monitoring its performance. Or lack of it.
The only 'problems' I've had with NPSS/Vortex pistons is weakening over time. Don't know the reason. Air leakage? But my bought used Hatsan Mod 125 Sniper NPSS .25 has always been at ~25 FPE with my favored pellet, the JSB Exact King 25.39. And my 1st Hatsan Mod 125 Sniper Vortex .25 (refurbished) dropped from ~28 FPE to ~22 FPE with the Kings before I finally sent it back for a replacement. The replacement also stared off at ~28 FPE but it's now at ~25 FPE (like the NPSS) with the Kings.
Don't have the adapter for the Vortex piston to check the fill pressure & won't bother because I'd rather put the money toward an industrial ram as a replacement. Eventually ... Can't afford it right now but sooner than later the Vortex ram is getting replaced. But I'll 1st convert a Hatsan 135 .25 spring gun. A bit more potential than the Hatsan Mod 125s owing to its 1mm larger diameter cylinder. 30mm vs 29mm.

I still consider myself new to airguns. I would like to eventually learn how to replace my own seals. But right now I would not trust myself to try to change one. I would probably cause more problems then I would fix.

Red, That's Exactly what happened to me this month with a new Hatsan 125. I think it was created by a burr or poor workmanship in the gas chambers main seal. Just needed better workmanship, new seal, remove burr and grease and it would have worked. However, I feel this is low quality coming from a New rifle. Unlike Springer, I don't know how to work on these to correct these issue on a New gun. Wish I could because it was a pain to return it. So, I can see your point. Still, I think I shouldn't have to correct Hatsan's faulty workmanship. Just look it over and send it out the door correct! I hope this next rifle is put together correctly and merely works right and shoots accurately. We shouldn't have to spend 500$ in order to obtain a decent air rifle that works. OM

They didn't tell what caused the failure, just what they did to fix it. Tracking shows it will be delivered Tuesday. I'm looking forward to shooting it next week. Out of the several I purchased over the last 2 years this one seemed to have the most power.
-
I bought a used .25 125 Sniper expecting to do work on it after a lot of research.
It was my first AG after something like 40 years?
I figured I'd jump in both feet and go big for all the challenges.
That Hatsan taught me a lot in a very short time.
I got stupid and sold it. Now I love the NP2 but it still don't have that 'thang' a good Hatsan tuned has for me.
I'm just watching for a good deal on a used again.
-
You got yours from Pyramyd Air and they worked on it? I got mine from them as well and when I returned it (the Springer) they did not break it down and look at it. They just sent me a new one. It arrived in a timely manner. And I'm shooting it. It seems to work fine but the other one with the problem didn't show until around 200 pellets. I'm giving this one a workout. Still, I would have been happy if Pyramyd would have worked on mine and merely fixed it. Then returned it. Like yours. Saving me 200 pellets. I would have been more confident with competent American workmanship examining it than a new one. Perhaps Hatsan won't reimburse them for warranty work. OM

I bought mine from a member here at GTA. It had the NP conversion from PA.
There's a thread I did that shows the junk you can find in them.
Now no AG manufacturer is gonna use the good lubes and high dollar seals without a profit.
Heck. Even the Car manufactures sell you questionable products and hope they never have to do a recall!
Why should dropping $300 or so on an AG be any different? It's the way things are in the real World.
I lurk the for sale threads here at GTA as it's gotten me some great AGs!
;D

What ever happened to taking pride in your workmanship? Was it sold for a profit as well? OM

I worked in factories when I was younger and I'd have to say the upper management removed that option.
That's why I left and spent most of the last 25 years on my own.
It's not pretty but it is what it is.

Sounds like the situation created a niche for you. Possibly for many others. OM

I got my 125 back today from Hatsan. I got around 50 rounds through it. It's shooting much better than when I sent it out. It seems to still be dieseling. I'm seeing a small puff of smoke come out of the barrel. Since they replaced the seal and the piston do I need to treat this like it's a new gun? Will it take some shots before it settles down?
-
I don't know enough to answer that one. However, my new rifle is still dieseling after 60 pellets.? And I cleaned it before shooting. OM
-
It dieseled for about 100 pellets. Then after sighting in, it will stay for about 5-6 shots. Then go off again. OM

That would be from oil in the compression tube, not the barrel. I have a Chicom cheapie that is still smoking after 100's of shots. Must have had a gallon of machine oil in the innards... ;D. Still shoots well and I don't worry about internal rust. ;)

Is this common for a new rifle to change POI like this? If I were shooting a new .22 powder burning rifle. I would be returning it with this condition. OM

With a new .22 powder burner you are mostly dealing with seasoning the barrel. With a springer AG, there are a many, many more parts that need to mesh together & break in for accuracy. I usually don't expect good consistency from an AG until at least 200 shots or more.
-
I got another 50 or 60 rounds through it the last 2 days. It's stopped dieseling now and seems to be settling in.
-
There is more to consider while breaking these in. All the while pouring pellets down the barrel. OM

Ok, I've been tracking my New rifle and it consistently delivers 5-6 shots on target. Then gets out of sight in. Which it takes me 6-7 missed shots to realize it's time to check it. Then it takes me 10 shots to walk it back in to zero. So, crunching the numbers: I'll fire a total of 22-23 shots of which 6 are on target and 17 are off. Or trying to get it back to zero. That's 25% of the time it's on target and 75% of the time it's off target??
By knowing this and carefully tracking the number of shots I could save the 6 misses and move to the sight in process. Still, this may get me to a third of the time on and two thirds of the time shooting to get it back on?? For 33% and 66%. Not good numbers for a new gun... OM

On a different issue, I noticed the trigger pull is now harder than it was when I had it adjusted. Upon closer inspection I noted that the rear trigger screw has fallen out. So, the trigger returned to a harder setting. I'll start visit hardware stores to find a matching screw... OM

I've got five Hatsans. Good guns, hard to shoot. But I like the challenge and they all shoot pretty good. I had an Airhawk and a Leverage break like that for no apparent reason and I wonder now if I was using to light a pellet in them and over time that broke them. If you're using a scope maybe it's moving or it's broke and want hold zero. I believe I broke a couple of scopes because of dieseling that would have held up on that particular gun if not for the igniting. Now I try shooting a new gun till it blows most of the oil out before I mount a scope. Oil in the barrel will effect accuracy. I've had guns group well 3 or 4 pellets then go off then pull a few patches thru it and it's back on. Just a few thoughts. Later.
-
Speaking of scopes, I find the length of pull on my hatsan too long to get a comfortable eye relief with several scopes I have tried. Anyone else have this issue? I'm starting to not really like this new rifle.
-
MY 155, 100x, 135 and 200x all have the same weaver type mount and they're a little to far forward. I
use a UGT off set mount from PA (part # PY-A-1826, $14.95). Works perfect for me.
-
It wasn't the same one but I did but a mount that brings the scope back farther. I still find I struggle with the eye relief. This is the only rifle I have that I have this problem with. I really want to like this rifle. It seems to be the most powerful gas piston rifle I have bought.
-
Not using a scope, just the iron sights it came with. Some posted here to not bother with using a scope until it's broke in. Which takes 5-600 shots. So, I'm going with that. I've taken several black birds out to 35 yards like this. Still, I wonder... OM
