A little "science" guys. I took out a dozen .177 pellets to aim at a dozen targets I have on this card. We all know different rifles/pistols like different pellets. I thought I would put ten pellets on the zero at 15 yards (12.3 meters) and see what they did. So here's the result. I'm not going to cop to flyers, misshapen pellets and my shooting skills. This is what it is--120 pellets on 12 targets with a Hammers 3-9x40 and 64 yr old eyes. I'd go out to 25 yds, but I don't have them in my back yard and the local shooting range is just annoying. There was little if any wind. The next project is to take out another dozen pellets, see what I get. Then, take the five best and the five worst and try them again. Isn't this fun?

Neat looking rifle. I don't believe I've heard of that brand before.
The Hammers is a decent scope for the dough. Just remember that your Hammers 3x9 has a 10x mil-dot reticle, and not a 9x. The would have been nicer since that scope can only dial up to 9x. But what do ya expect for cheap right:)

Well, Pell Gun Fun, first I heard that about the Hammers too. That Black Ops was $148 shipped so it's hard to go wrong. It hits hard. Do you think the scope has something to do with the inconsistency? Anyone?

Na, I doubt the scope is causing that.
Since it's a break-barrel I'd be more inclined to say it is the hold. Are you familiar with the 'Artillery hold', or 'arty hold' as some call it? If not, just goggle it. Some break barrels are more finicky about how they are held and some are not. You'll just have to experiment to find the one that works for your rifle.

The Black Ops is a Beeman in fancy dress.
;D
I found the bipod setup really works great for me.
I did replace the barrel with a .22 barrel from an RS2 and am still working on a few other mods.
70 yard beer bottle killer easy.

Oh yes, I know all about the "hold." Everything was the same for each target--i.e. all on the bipod, rifle held gently, all zeroed on the target as steady as it's possible for me. I wasn't aware that I pulled any. The trigger has a long travel though and could use some work--still, 120 pellets tell some story. I just don't know the full story. There is a big difference between target #2 and #7. I didn't suddenly go berserk and Monica wasn't under the bench.
-
Jeff--what pellet did the best in your .177 barrel?

LOL. That's a good one. I think that may have flown over most people's heads a bit:) I gave up on Break barrel and went to PCP. Ain't looking back:) Come to the Dark Side.... we have cookies.

Interesting, polymag group s quite nice. Can you reproduce that group each time with polymags?
-
I think I would stick with 1,2 and 8 and tweak them. Of course if you're having fun, keep going.

Like I said, "The next project is to take out another dozen pellets, see what I get. Then, take the five best and the five worst and try them again." So stay tuned. I've also got some PCP rifles, but the springers are a challenge and I haven't given up yet. I understand there are guys out there that get decent groups out to 50 yards...unless it's BS.
-
Check out some of the verminhunters videos on youtube. Si can really make those springers shoot. Not sure if he shoots out to 50 yards, but I've watched him put pellet on pellet at 25 yards.
-
I got a Chrony the other day and went back to the .177 pellets for the Black Ops. So here are the results of another 24 kinds of pellets. It's probably TMI for most, but it kept me out of trouble for a while.
-
Are you aware that shooting some of those ultra-light pellets in your gun can damage the seals and your gun's accuracy potential?
-
I am now. Haven't read that before.
-
Jeff--what pellet did the best in your .177 barrel?
Can't answer that as I only had some Gamo's on hand at the time.
It took about a week before I swapped to the .22 barrel.
:D
