What do you think would be a fair price to pay for a (used) 34 Classic with wood stock in excellent condition cosmetically (although I have not been able to test-fire it)?
Also, how do I identify which trigger this rifle has? It is not stamped into the top of the receiver tube like on my 350... does that mean it may be a T01 trigger?
Thanks in advance

What is the rifle's age?

I just contacted the seller. He claims he purchased it new in 2001 and only had it out once running less than a few dozen pellets through it. He lives on the outskirts of a city where he is not allowed to shoot in his own yard which is reason for lack of use and reason for sale.
He's asking $180, but I may have some haggle room on his asking price...
I am considering buying it as a gift for a good friend who can't really afford a decent air rifle but I think would really enjoy one ;)
-
I believe 2000 was the transition year from TO1 to TO5. The TO1 had a metal safety with a kind of loop at the end. The TO5 had a plastic safety.
Value is a bit harder to define. I paid $100 for mine bit it is not pretty. Even so, I may have stolen it. It shoots fantastically well, though.
Rule of thumb is generally sixty to seventy five percent of new price for European guns, I think - depending on condition.
-
FWIW: During that time I believe I remember correctly they sold for $200 as a TO1 trigger. The T05 trigger added about 30.00, and then the T06 models jumped up to today's cost.
-
Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it.
I have requested the seller to send me a close up photo showing the trigger and safety. I also inquired if there was a nearby spot I would be able to test fire it if I were to come look in person, and unfortunately they said they do not know of any place (hence the sale)... so I would have to take a gamble that it shoots well. Not sure if the savings would be worth the risk so maybe I should pass and keep looking.
-
Well... you can take catalogs or a phone book with you, 4" thickness or more of it will easily stop a pellet from that rifle at short indoor range. Take a piece of wood to backstop behind the paper books.
That way you can test fire it indoors to test fire it. Don't dry fire it. If he passes, then pass on...unless he makes a $100-$120.00 offer. If the pictures and shape of it looks good.

Is this the one you are looking at? It looks like a t01 model with the hook like safety. Looks to be in real good condition too.
-
Yep! That's it ;)
Should I make an offer even though I will not be able to test fire it, or pass and keep looking?

Not sure what years the TO-5 .22 cals had those lousy barrels fitted ?

I just bought one of those. A T5 sold as a new refurb. Has the 12-land barrel from China. Not quite broken in yet, but it shoots neat little cloverleafs at 25 yards with H&N FTTs. I'd buy it all over again, just my .02 . ;)
-
Why not just put it in your hands and do a face to face with the owner so you can see.
What are you to lose,,,,
-
Ad had been removed, someone already snagged it! Oh well... wasn't meant to be ;)
-
The other guy is saying I can't believe I saw it... Someone on GTA might snagged it!!!! LOL.
-
Yep! That could be what happened Bullit! ;D
I stand corrected. Looks like the ad has been removed due to CL violation.
That doesn't necessarily mean it's been sold though!
I just sent them a offer ;)
-
If your read the Craigslist rules airguns are not permitted to be listed, in fact weapons aren't allowed. Many people work the ads so they aren't automatically refused. Others get reported by CL readers. Sometimes airguns are listed, but not often and not for long.
-
Yep! Luckily I emailed them while the listing was still active. It's still available.
They are asking $180... I offered $120, they counter offered $150. Hmmm...
-
A WOOD stocked 34 in Very good shape EVEN if having a broken spring is worth 150 IMO
-
Thanks Scott, that gives me peace of mind if I go through with it! 8)
-
If that had been me, I'd paid him $200 for it. It would have to be in bad shape not to be worth that. Wish I'd found it before you have.
Best,

Perhaps you can put your hands and eyes on it? A simple rag wrapped and lightly held over the muzzle will let you fire it with enough backpressure to avoid any damage. Do you know what trigger it is?
-
I'm not 100% certain yet, but I believe it is most likely the T01 trigger. I am supposed to see in in person today after 4pm ;)

If it is in good condition still a steal at $150 even if it needs a new spring and seal kit
-
$150 is as high as I would go. The spring & seal kit will cost about $50, so you get a nice OLD classic for about $200 which is good. :) JMHO

Well, she looked really nice overall. The safety does have the little curl at the end so if that is unique to the T01 trigger then that's what it is. The only thing I could find to nit-pick about were a few minor scrapes around the edges of the butstock from being moved around a concrete floored garage for 14 years... nothing a rubber slip-on butt pad wouldn't easily conceal. Otherwise it was amazingly clean for its age! Bluing looks great, no rust. I still have not fired it, but it's in the back seat of my truck ;D
Talked them down another $10 bucks too! I think I scored... hopefully she shoots as nice as she looks.
-
Cool deal. I think you didn't go wrong with that purchase.
-
140.00 is a fair deal for you both. Hope everything works out for ya.
-
Nice David, looks like we are pretty close to each other. I was about to get her this pass friday. I told Kelly i would buy for the asking 180 if they drove up to me. I didnt want to waste my time going to them and the gun didnt work. Yea she looked beautiful on the few pics they had up.
-
I probably won't get a chance to test fire it until tomorrow and the wait driving me crazy!
I suppose I don't want to like it "too much", or I might have to start looking for another rifle for my bro-in-law ;D
-
Keep us updated!
-
Yep, it's official... I scored!! 8)
Finally had a chance to spend some time with the 34 today and I am very pleased with the purchase.
I ran a couple patches through the bore which came out pretty darn clean after the first pass. Put a drop of lube on the barrel pivot and inspected the breach seal which still looks new. Overall it is very nice condition. I'd say 90-95% on the wood and 98% on the metal.
Gave her a good rub down with a treated gunwipe cloth and I was off to the back yard for a test fire session... I ran a few cheapo tinned CPHP's through it and it functions very well! I didn't have time to mess with the chronograph, but she sounds like she's hitting the backstop with plenty of power. Accuracy seems great so far although I did not try for groups on paper yet. With my first shot I hit the smallest steel on my spinner (1.5") freehand from a measured 20 yards, and proceeded to hit 9 out of 10 in a row with the factory open sights :)
The thought did cross my mind about keeping it and gifting my bro-in-law my lightly used Benjamin 397 instead... is that wrong? ;D
Here are a couple pics from today for those of you waiting expectantly haha! -

The 397 is one rifle on my wish list. LOL
-
Dang dave .... good score !!
Looks clean as a pin
-
Keep the 34, give the pumper away ;)
-
;) ;D How much do you like your brother in-law ? I would gift the 397 and keep the D34 reason being the 397 is a work horse beater and the D34 is a workhorse keeper if you do not have a decent break barrel springer. For all those who disagree I swapped a Tuned D34 T-01 for a Benji 392 + small $ consideration to a friend here on the forum . I would not have made the trade if I had not also traded an Air Arms S510 .25 for a Beeman RX2 .20 + $$$. If no RX2 the D34 would still live here even though I like the member & friend I traded with
-
Keep the one you want most. They're both good rifles. i'm sure he'll be happy with the thought...
-
I ended up keeping the 34... now I'm probably going to purgatory lol. ;D
-
Well u beat me to the punch on that one. Another steal came up on a Diana 34 with a LOT of extras. Now im wishing i didnt pull the trigger and send out the MO for that crosman 400.

Wow! That .22 looks very nice and is a great bargain with all the extras!
-
Good deal you made there. The older ones have the nice sights. Would make a good candidate for a peep sight.
