It had been a bit of a rough month or so, couple of things happened and I have been sick. A cold became acute bronchitis flirting with pneumonia for about the whole month. Finally Back to near normal(at least as close as I ever was ::) ??? ;) )
Well My P.M. box a bit ago had a message from vigilandy part of what was in it was,
"
FYI-- I got a little toy I'll send out to you later today. FedEx says two days... 7xxx 7xxx 6xxx. I think you'll have fun with it. Andy
"
Well it showed up two Days ago and I have been to busy having fun getting familiarized with my youngest Daughters new generation Daisy 953 to post about it...
I do have some small qualms about being the recipient of such a nice gift (a nice Simmons A/O also) mainly because I have spent my two months airgun allowance ($100 or so) on 4 barrels. Two $20 L.W.s, a $20 Crosman and $40 for a Daisy 953 barrel.
Andy thank you for reminding me of the basic goodness that is within many, and for what to me is a rather large kindness.
As much fun as we are having fun protecting the neighborhood from vampire zombie eggs it is the act of kindness that has really lifted me...
One more thank you because it means a lot to me...
and so much fun I am over the qualms...
I need to start another thread about Modern Daisy 953 serial numbers to see if I can figure out a bit...
well I will be working on them both a bit the old guy(like me) is a bit dinged up but very solid, he is having slight valve sealing probs needs a partial pump to close the poppet. while I have him apart the stock will be sanded...
the youngster is also needing a partial pump but it is because the piston oring is causing fps variance 450-500 fps. guess who already had a few rebuild kits... ;) so he will be taken down today also...
I will take some picks to show the differences in the two generations as I go...
so here is a pic cause it did happen ;) two generations for two generations...
a 12/04 Daisy 953 (if the serial # info Daisy sent is correct)
a 1/85 Daisy 953 (Pretty durn sure info here http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=65117.0 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=65117.0))

You really can't help but to love this place. Congrats to the receiver and the sender.

My Shooting buddy and new owner on the left with her big sis(Deans list consistently a semester away from Applied Math Bachelors degree ;D) Proud of them both...

Congrats Kirby. This place is amazing. I have a gift heading my way from a fellow member myself.

I am grinning about like when I got my first dirtbike... 8) ;D ;D
So far it seems to like Crosman 7.4g points, Daisy 7.8g wadcutters, and Beeman 8.53g points (for 15-25 yards)
Does not like CPHP or disco hp or Winchester points Still have more to test...
It seems to prefer pellets that have a smaller contact patch at the head, will see if that continues after resealing...

What kind was you dirt bike? Right now I ride my Late Great Grandpa's 1982 Honda XR 80.
Back on topic. Congrats on the new gun.

I was 11 I iirc and it was a Yamaha gt...I worked all summer to pay for it and mom pitched in ~50$ early b-day money. By the time I was 17 it was a 79 Honda Elsinore 250 and a Husky 79 cr 250 frame with a (76?)wr 360 motor. Growing up in the desert has advantages. ;).

Yup. The nice folks here have helped me out plenty. I've been the receiver plenty of times-- including the handful of shotshells/roundballs you sent me!

I'm embarrassed to day that I still haven't gotten around to getting the 1100 sent out for a reseal. I don't have any clue how to work with these and I'd hate to break a hard to replace part. I need to get on it though because the 1100 would be a great gopher gun. I'm shooting them at no more than 15ft.

Well, when you do get it shooting you will definately wish you hadn't waited so long. Mine is my goto snake eliminator with the shotgun shells. Absolutely destroys the head.

Well I have not put the work in to try a 16.75 Crosman barrel yet on the 2004, I did just finish additional barrel work on the Daisy barrel... I felt I could get it to shoot well... well better than it was...
I felt when I used a double cut carbide tree burr by hand to knock down the edge of the barrel I did not go quite far enough and things where not loading quite as they should. The Daisy wadcutters still caught and I think some other pells were not loading totally strait...
So another light hit with the burr and then to a bbq skewr and wet dry to ease things a bit more...to include about .3"-.5"of rifling...
cleaned up... fire lapped with rubbing compound(the Daisy barrel has plenty rifling depth)... twelve shots... qtip chased by large hard headed pellet CPUMs...
cleaned up first pellet I chose was one that did ok but not good... RWS superdomes
zeroed in about 8 shots at 20 yards 3-7x20 tasco
so moved to 25 yards held-over just above his sponge head hoping for the smile/belt poi... got just a bit low
a four in a big one so shifted aim point to nail the sponge head right between the eyes,
2-5mph breeze
It's first five shots at 25 yards estimated 30-30 reticle (no mil dot)holdover, not bad...
had to wait till later to go 30 yards (both 953s) and did not do so well but well enough to know I could with less breeze and better shooting...on my part... nail him 4 of 5 on a good day... 2-7-10 breeze & headache driven..? ;) mis-timed shots. will break down later
considering this is with 3.75-4.5 fpe not bad, will post 30 yard goups next post...
I am really liking working on it and did not expect it to do as well as it is long range will have to re try some other pellets now(oh it does hate the 10.3 AAs now)
