Did you pull the trigger group yet? One tip there for when you go to reinstall it, use a toothpick or jewlers screwdriver and lift the spring loaded sear lever and slide something under it to keep the sear up and out of the way. After everything is reinstalled, be sure to pull whatever you use to hold it up.
Now, to get the piston out, break the barrel while lifting the cocking lever linkage. You won't have to break the barrel too far to get the cocking lever shoe tilted to where you can lift it out of the slot. Reclose the barrel and flip the cocking lever back out of the way. Use a screwdriver or other flat item to push the piston back and out of the chamber.
When reinstalling the piston, be sure to use the soda can trick I posted to save the seal from damage by the threads.

Well, my XL1500 cranks out about 24fpe. I'd say YES. All 3 of my Benjis had dinged up factory seal when I tore into them. A Maccari (or even a new factory seal) will most likely improve the performance. Sure can't hurt.
:)
Make sure you do a good debur, crosshatch and lube.

I lubed the outside of the GRS bushing, as per instructions. And yes, I moly the inside of the hatched compression chamber, but then wipe virtually all of it off. A small amount of moly is then put on the outside of the seal just prior to re-assembly. I normally experience one or two detonations initially afterwards, but little deiseling after that and almost no smoke.

PS. As far as the action goes, you can also remove the e-clip and spring holding the bear trap and remove it that way as well if for some reason you are not removing the barrel pivot bolt as well.
