I'm not sure where to put this, but I think this is the most appropriate place. I just recently purchased a HW50s in .177, and I love it. I also have a HW30s .177 and like it a lot also. Both are short, light weight and extremely accurate if I do my part. I also have a 97K in .177. My TX200 is 22 cal. Both the TX and HW97k are heavy and don't get the use the others do. I find the TX200 to be hold sensitive, IMO.
Finally, to my question: To those who own any two of the above mentioned rifles, how would you compare the handling, weight, shot cycles, etc. between them? Compare the 95 to either the TX200 or HW50s. To me, the 50s is just about perfect, but a little more size/weight would be tolerable. From my research it looks as if the HW95 fits between the 50s and TX200 weight wise while having about the same power as the TX. I also am thinking 22 cal to possibly replace my TX200. I like lighter weight and short length. Just for comparison, I had a D34 and didn't care for it due to the size and weight, although it was very accurate.
Please help an old guy decide if he wants to spend any more money or rotate some plinkers ;D. Talk some sense into me, please.

95/98 platform are excellent shooters ...
Sadly when shooting .22 caliber, rifle weight plays heavily into the accuracy department IMO. ( This in Higher power setting / tunes especially )
98 over the 95 because it has a weighted barrel and will FLIP less.
Just some random info ;)
-
The HW95 is a very nice gun. It is considerably lighter than the under levers but still shoots hard. Get it in the .177 caliber. It shares the same power plant as the HW98.

Thanks Scott. Just thinking at this point. Sometimes I think the TX and 97 are just the ticket and other times something lighter trips my trigger :D. I'm old enough, I think I should be downsizing, but I always want more ::).

My 95 is .177 and I find it a "lively" shooter at full power. I have not shot it in about a year. For ease of shooting my order of use is 30S, 57 (both .177) 77 and 34K (both .20), 50S and 34 with an OS kit (both .177), 34 in .22 and finally the 95.
Shouldering and "pointability" is easier than my full length 34's and 77 but not as easy as the 50.
If you decide to get one I would choose one of the larger calibers as I find them easier to shoot than the .177.
Hope this helps. Good luck with your decision.

I was hoping it would feel much lighter not only the overall weight, but without the lever hanging out front. I sure like the feel of the Weihrauchs.
Thank you for the comment.

Thank you. I appreciate the information. When you say your 95 is a lively shooter, are you referring to recoil and gun movement or hold sensitivity when shooting?

Hi Tom
I'm like you in that I'm partial to more compact lighter weight springers. I have the 30S, the 50S and now an R9 (which is very close to the 95 in many ways). Also I have an RWS48. The one I shoot the most is the 30S. The one I shoot the least is the RWS48 due to the fact I don't like the weight of it. I probably should sell it. And I shoot the 50S & the R9 about the same amount, which is considerable, but not as much as my HW30S. As far as weight goes, the R9 is at my limit and it's not too much heavier than the HW50S. All of these are .177 except the RWS48 which is .22 ;D

Thanks Dan. That is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. I need to sleep on this for several days and not get caught up in a buying frenzy. I have never done that before ::). I agree, some guns are just too heavy to be fun.

A little of all. I'm getting a little over 14 fpe. When compared to my heavier or larger caliber or lower powered guns, a pellet isn't going to stay on a scope turret when fired. If I didn't have other options lowering the power or changing the caliber would be a higher priority.

This may be more nonsense than sense BUT I just received a new HW95 today! I absolutely love it! It is perfect for the shooting that I like to do. I do have the HW30S and I also have a HW77K so I do have some reference to the rifles that you have. I do not have a HW50 so my comparison may not be what you are looking for exactly so take it with a grain of salt.
The 30 is super easy to cock and shoot. It is a gentle, light weight springer in the low power range. I think it is a great rifle for targets and plinking and small pest close range. It has a nice balance and is not sensitive to hold.
I find the HW95 to be quite a bit more to cock but, from what I have read, not noticeably more than the 50 but, with an increase in pellet speed. I don't find the 95 difficult to cock for a long session (I have had a R9 for the past 8 years) but some have noted that it can be difficult in the long run. I would guesstimate about the same cocking pressure as your 97. I have the 77K so that is similar. The weight of the 95 isn't noticeably more to me either. In fact, today we were running the 95 through the paces and had the 30 out with us. My 12 y.o. son was shooting the 95 and I was shooting the 30. We swapped rifles and he made the comment that the 30 was heavier! Huh? So I did the one in one hand and the other in the other weight test and I couldn't feel the difference. So that shows me that there was not a noticeable difference in weight between the them. I know that there has to be because of the size difference (both with iron sight/no scopes) but not enough to really be able to tell.
The 95 is shooting 880 fps with 8.3 gr Superdomes. Not sure what the 50 gets but I have heard in the high 700-low 800. You know that better than I do. The balance and feel of the stock ergonomics were surprising to me. My thought was to put my factory R9 stock on the 95 and basically turn it into a HW95L (Luxus with the fancier stock). After about 200 pellets through it, I decided to keep the original stock on it because it fits me so well. I will try the R9 stock but I don't feel that I need something different on it.
My personal take after one extended shooting session with the 95 is that it has the best fit, weight and power level for me. My R9 was just right before but this 95 has a slight edge on it somehow. It just fits!
Oh, my R9 is .22 and I love it in that caliber but since I don't hunt, I am preferring the 95 in .177 for the flatter trajectory. The .177 still packs a punch on those steel targets! If you prefer .22, I don't think that the 95 will disappoint. My R9 shoots 15.9 JSB @ 665 fps with a Vortek kit in it.

Just buy it!!!

Thanks again JimL911. My HW50s is putting out 11 fpe +-.5 depending on the pellet.

Thank you for the detailed report. I'm certainly happy you are pleased with your new HW95. You have a very nice lineup of rifles, also. I personally think, overall, the HW series of rifles is my favorite. Not trying to start any brand wars here on the forum, but only stating personal preference ;D.
There is not a lot of weight difference, with the HW30 being advertised @ 5.5lbs, the HW50 @ 6.8lbs and the HW95 @ 7.5lbs. The HW95 is still 1.3 lbs lighter than the 97 or the TX200. Since I do not hunt, there is absolutely no reason I need a higher powered rifle in .177 or 22 cal. I do kinda like the louder smack of the 22 pellet though. :D
My HW50 shoots the 8.3 gr Super domes at 782 fps average for 11.3 FPE. I'm not thinking of buying another rifle unless I would sell one. My thought was to possibly replace the TX200 22 cal with the 95, still having approximately the same power in a lighter package. Not sure there is enough difference to justify the change. As heavy as it is, I surely do like the looks of the TX. I will have to think on this for a while.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply in such detail, and I hope you have great success with your new 95.

My plan is to bring the 95 down to about the 12fpe level so that is really what you have with the 50. Good luck on your decision!

Having owned and/or shot (for many years) examples of every one of the airguns mentioned in this thread so far and some that aren't, I will say that the karbine barreled HW85/R10 and HW95/R9 models (.177 & .22) get the most trigger time from me. With the .22 having the most pleasant discharge behavior. All benefit from a home deburr, lube and JM kit install. Have a home installed PG-2 kit in an HW80/R1 .22k that is also smooth and powerful.

Tom
As a side note, I found that my R9 cocks easier than my HW50S in stock trim out of the box. :P

Thanks again Dan. That is interesting information. Everyone says the 50s cocks hard for the power it develops, but I do not find it very difficult.

I'm in the same boat, like short and light rifles. I'm 60/40 between getting the HW50s (.177) or a detuned HW95 (.20) Or maybe I should just get both?

Interesting to hear the 22 is most pleasant shot cycle. I am finding 22 cal a little more difficult to consistantly get good groups.

Both would be best. ;D ;D Seriously, I really like my .177 HW50s. The new style cocking arm makes it smooth as butter, although a little stiff to cock. I did a lube tune and made a snug fitting spring guide. I also made a delrin top hat and put a milk jug sleeve around the outside of the spring. It is a nice quick slap and the pellet is hitting the trap. The handling is great.......short, not too heavy, and the trigger is very nice. It is just about perfect IMO, definitely one of my favorites if not the favorite.

Just put my spare factory 50S spring in my 95. Averaged 820 with JSB Express for 11.75 fpe. What a fantastic gun now.

That sounds great! Are the springs the same diameter? I wonder what a 95 spring would do in a HW50.

Hmmm, I just found something interesting, do any of you have a HW95K ? It's a shortened HW95, so the length is about the same as the 50s, and it's 7.1 lbs compared to 6.8 of the 50s. So only about 5 ounces heavier.
What i like about the 95 is that it comes in .20, which is my fav caliber between 10-15 fpe.
Darn it, I was 60/40, but now i'm 50/50 :-/
-
I doubt the 95 spring will fit. My stock 95/77 springs are 290mm and the 50/57 are 250mm. That's almost 1.6 inches longer. Virtually the same spring with 4 less coils on the 50.

Where have you found this. As far as I know the 95 has always been a "K" but unlike the 80K, and 85K there is no longer barreled 95 to need to add the K designator to differentiate between them.

Just google "weihrauch hw95k". These 2 are British websites, so I bet the model is not imported to the USA. But AoA told me a few months ago they can special order from Weihrauch.
