Title: Weihrauch HW 97 K grouping
Post by: Supaflee on March 13, 2015, 03:57:40 AM
Today I tried zeroing my HW97K. I set up a 10 metre range and put up several strings of 5 , adjusting the scope minimally to the aiming mark between strings . They were all "dang" good shots ,and just needed shifting down and to the left about an inch until I progressively got the POI , I was seeking. I used pellets packed in bulk lots , " Outdoor Outfitters " Rounded 13.88 grain. They are extremely consistant in sizing and weight .
At the end of my trials I shot a 5 shot string within a 10mm circle . This rifle is sooooo, smooth , and quiet. Beautiful light trigger , incredible to shoot with . Beautifully constructed , well finished in every way. It's simple to cock , easy to load the pellet into the big loading port , nice balance , rather heavy and seems short to other rifles , but wow , is it ever accurate .
I bought the rifle here in New Zealand very recently , my only other German Rifle is a Diana 460 , equally as good in every respect ( but it's .177cal.)
One day soon I'll Chrony my HW97K and post the results for you, using the 13.88grain .22 cal round head pellets,  which gave me the best accuracy results.
I'd be keen to hear what sort of ft/lbs other users are getting from their HW97K's .

                                                              Regards Supaflee

I found that when I shot my HW97 in .22 cal. that it performed best with H&N FTT pellets, making about 15 fpe.

Nice shooting!  You have a couple great rifles there.  I've not shot the RWS 460, but most reports are positive. Looking forward to seeing your chrony results.

Vortek kit pg2 sho on older 25mm compression tube 97k pushing 13.7 gr @ 715 FPS equating to 15.5 FPE.  This was right after the kit install.  I'll check again now that it has had 1000+ shots for break in.

Today I've been playing some more with my 97K .22 , wow this rifle shoots consistantly. At 10 metres it sticks 'em in the same hole . What a beautiful rifle , so smooth Im wondering if it's been "slicked up" a bit by it's first owner? The trigger is incredible , just think about pulling the trigger ,,, and the shot's gone !!
And quiet , the moderator ( not allowed to call 'em "silencer") , is sooooo effective .
There's nothing that I will be changing ,, nothing !!
I dont care what the velocity or energy is , this rifle is so accurate it does'nt matter.
I know that at 10 metres it burys the pellet into hardwood till its about 2mm inside the hole , I wouldnt like to get clobbered with one , neither will the rabbits !!

Supaflee,
I didn't get much time to shoot groups with my 97k as I was concentrating on another rifle today but here are a few 50 yard groups.  1 inch!  I've yet to shoot a .5 inch group with a springer...

My stock HW 97K likes H&N FTT 5.53/14.66 the best for target shooting - average 708fps/16 ft.lbs.
JSB Jumbo Heavy 18.13 gr. - 639fps/ 16.46 ft.lbs. Shoots them well, but better groups with the FTT's.

Cheers🍀

Here is a 25 yard group from this morning 0.257 CTC.  177 JSB 8.44 in my HW97K.  I was shooting from my deck using the railing for a rest.  I can't wait for things to dry out and get shooting time outside.

What fpe was it making before you installed PG2 "HO" kit?

Just ran some shots over the chronograph. It now shoots 810 FPS with 11.4 gr. beeman fts giving it 16.6 FPE. Mine was shooting 13.5 FPE before the vortek HO kit.

Joe, I'm trying brother, one of these days...

I let my thumbhole go for a slight profit due to a rimfire BR addiction.
Just picked up a HW35 and am bitten by the air bug again.
Not even a tin out and am going to take the plunge on another 97.
"dang" I do dumb stuff sometimes :-\

My 97K is a .177 and she is very consistent as well. The last time I did a 30 shot chrony test she shot:

LO   864.20   14.00
HI   877.60   14.44
AVG   870.86   14.22
ES   13.40
SD   3.92

I do not think she would have a problem taking a rabbit. :)
