Title: Trail NP XL 1100 First Hour Experience - DAYUMMM
Post by: haywyre on February 11, 2011, 08:18:18 AM
Well after things decided to defrost around here in Dallas my Benji Trail NP XL finally arrived. After a thread I read yesterday about cleaning and non cleaning I decided to take the non-clean and Texas Wing-it approach to setting this gun up. It was 30 degrees out side so i hurried home and unpacked the rifle, slapped the scope on to the rail, attached the strap and went out back. I have a steel target at about 30yards. The first brake of the rifle was definitely harder than my Quest 1000x. Loaded up the virgin CPHP. BAM 2feet high and to the right. Hit the back stop. A few clicks (2 adjustments) of the elevation and dead on to the target. Adjusted the wind-age and its now spot on. Now on the third shot. I am still amazed at the power of this thing. I can only explain it as "Fluid". After my year with the Quest this rifle is a dramatic difference. I purchased this rifle for the squirrels eating my chickens feed and the pesty birds getting into the martin house out back. Well about 30 mins later I was inside and spotted my first hunt outside. Loaded up a Predator Polymag and headed out back. He had just left the chicken coop and into the tree. He was at about 40 yards. Man someone on the forum wasn't lying about the SMACK that the polymag delivers. It delivered a dead on head shot. It was louder than the actual shot fired. This was shot number 6 out of the gun period. I was sold. After 5 CPHP and 1 Polymag this rifle had me at SMACK. I cant wait now till 500shots and the GRT-III trigger.

Now I am chomping at the bit to purchase the blue laminated .25 Marauder ;)

Welcome aboard.  That's some nice shooting out of the box.  This is the one air rifle that I will never part with.  There has been so much good and bad about this gun, some with problems from the factory, but seems if you get a "good one" like you and I have, there's no beating it when it comes to high power break barrels.  I only have 250 or so shots through mine and it is a beast, seems like it's only getting better.  The polymag smack it one of my all time favorite sounds ;D

Great shooting! I am suprised the polymag had the same poi as the cphp that you were shooting.

Sounds like an amazing gun.... it would be at the top of my list if I had another $100 to spend....

I just noticed how light your stock is.  Crazy how different mine is....very dark.  Both look good, but what a difference.

Great shooting! Congrats on the new gun AND the first kill AND that Texas is de-frosting :D

In my 350 I can actually switch to the Polymags from the CPHPs out to about 25 yards without enough deviation that you really need to worry about it.

The color is pretty dark, darker than i expected. The picture is at about 5:00pm CST in direct sun light. So it looks allot lighter than actual.

My marauder can shoot polymags and cphp the same out to 35 yards. They are the only two pellets that can do that though I have tried with all my other pellets

That's awsome :)  the gun hasn't even quite  down yet and you allready nailed a critter, I wouldn't expect much a difference in POI from a 14.3gr to a 16gr, not with a gun this powerfull

Surely looks like you got one sure shooter there :)

Welcome Haywire, Seems you got a great one, but just a caution, I had one that right out of the box shot 5 in1 ragged hole @20yds. before the light gave out. The next morning, it all went down-hill. After a week, I tore it down and did a full tune! Can't say I don't love them though. They do get a bit easier to cock with time, or maybe its just the the right muscles getting tuned at the same time.  Best of luck with yours!
