Title: Vortek kit on the way.
Post by: BenjiHunter on March 11, 2015, 05:40:27 AM
Just ordered a PG2 kit for my D34 with o-ring seal. :P
It will be interesting to see how big the difference will be compared to stock.

Please keep us posted as you move thru the project. I have also thought of purchasing the kit for my D34.

Stefan, the shot cycle will be very nice.  Interested to hear how the O-ring seal works out.

That's what I'm hoping for.
I've read only good things about the O-ring seal, so we'll see how it works out.

I haven't tried an o-ring seal kit on a 34 but the kit with the normal seal is a great improvement.  I am sure you will like it.

Do you have to remove the barrel, to be able to get the piston out?

The Vortek spring is an inch shorter than the stock spring.
Do I have a problem here, or is it suppose to be that way?

If I remember right mine was a little shorter than the stock spring too. I really like the kit. The shot cycle is much improved.

Thank you!
I thought I had to send it back.

I took the gun apart and got the piston out, without removing the barrel.
Everything looks great. No burrs and no shave marks.

Are you suppose to pull the spring out of the sleeve when you grease it or just the part that is showing?
It is firmly inside the sleeve, so it wont be easy to pull it out.

Mine was already lubed under the sleeve. You can take it out and see for sure it won't hurt anything.

Is there a trick to attaching the piston seal to the piston?

Lots of different ways. I did mine like how Tom from vortek does it on the video on his site. Some warm it in hot water as it softens it some. I didn't warm mine. It took a couple of tries but it finally went on. Here is a link to the video.

I put one of those O-ring seals in my Remington Express. The FPS varies between 896-910. I'm really pleased with it. I did "polish" the tube with 600 grit over top a brake hone.

Cool deal Stefan. Let us know how you like it. I'm going to try to get some trigger time with mine tomorrow.

I looked inside the tube and it was like a mirror.
No polishing needed.

Ok, the rifle is in one piece again.
And, Oh La La, like everyone says, BIG difference.
No twang and no sproing.
Just a soft thud.
I don't have a chrony but I shot at a phone book, before and after.
It's more powerful now. How much I don't know.

Cool deal. The vortek kit is a nice upgrade for sure.

Probably the best upgrade you can do to a springer.

Unless you can afford a professional tune.

Of course.
I was thinking of best choice for a home tune kit.

Nice to read about this. My Vortek kit for my RWS 34 .22  will arrive tomorrow. Will be glad to get rid of some of the noise and vibration.

Stefan, I have two vortek kitted guns and love them.  I'm thinking about putting one in my 34 at some point.  Did you find the kit made the rifle noticeable quieter or just different in sound?  Is it more neighborhood friendly?

I would love to hear about the difference in a 34 parachute seal vortek compared to the O-ring seal kitted gun. Anybody???

Regards,
Tim

Yes, it's more quiet.
Instead of the loud sproing, now you hear a thud.

Thanks for all the updates. Did you need a spring compressor to take the gun apart and reassemble? Does the lot come with any lube?
Title: Re: Vortek kit on the way.
Post by: BenjiHunter on March 26, 2015, 07:06:16 PM
You should use a compressor, but I didn't.
I was too eager to get it done. :D
Yes, it comes with lube and instructions.

If you want to take the piston out, you need to remove the cocking arm.
The cocking arm is attached to the barrel breech with a pin and a c-clip.
A thin  sturdy piece of metal or a thin knife will work, but it's a bit tricky.
If that doesn't work you have to remove the barrel to get it out.

I have a vortek ps2 kit for my RWS 34. I have built a spring compressor and have the barrel out of the stock. Not sure what to do next :-[

I assume you mean the whole action out of the stock.
Here's a thing that may be of help.

I know this thread is a wee bit old, but I had a question for Stefan. Is the kit you bought the 12 fpe kit? I had a moment of weakness :D and ordered a Ruger Blackhawk last night (clone of RWS 34) and I want to put a Vortek 12 fpe kit (w/ o-ring seal) in it.

;D The D34 with a Vortek kit makes a nice break barrel even better I bought one from another member right around the same time I fell into a sweet RX2. The D34 has since moved to another member who really likes the rifle. My problem is I don't really need 2 break barrel rifles especially when one of them is very easily tuned for more or less power and light or heavy pellets. But back to the D34 yes it will shoot better with the home tune and a Vortek kit
