My Lee Haire aka Shootist tuned HW50S arrived about this time yesterday. Other than the scope, color, length and weight, this is a different rifle.
There is no twang, no more 'scrunchy' galling sound during cocking and the trigger is just right - smoothness reigns supreme thoughout. I do not believe it takes any more effort to cock this tuned HW50S than it takes to cock my OEM R7. Lee ordered some replacement parts from Chambers in England - see here:(http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=84580.0 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=84580.0)). Given the horrendous weather experienced in the NE and some replacement parts coming from abroad, I have no problem whatsoever with the 34 calendar day turnaround time. (It was winter here, too. ::) )
It was pouring rain here in the Pineywoods yesterday but I couldn't wait. I took her out to the shop, mounted the scope and fired a half dozen or so CPHP's out the door at nothing. The shot produces a 'thunk' with very little felt recoil. It's not raining but it's still cold and damp today. I put up a target at 10M to sight her in. She produces a single 1/4" hole with CPHP's at 10M off a rest. After 15-20 pellets, my 73 year old fingers were too numb for loading those little .177 boogers. Tomorrow is supposed to be a bunch warmer and fairer. If so, it will be lead slinging time in the backyard.
Am I pleased with my HW50S after Lee's tune, you can bet your bippy I am. ;D

Sounds like a grand rifle, nothing wrong with that type if you avoid the galling issue that they seem to have. Though I suspect your tuner ordered the cocking lever with nylon insert that Chambers offers. What type of scope you put on it?

Awesome Greg!!!
Keep us updated on her performance!
Best move you can make with a great air rifle.....tune it and make it an even greater gun!!

Congratulations on a fine piece of machinery! It sounds like a winner and I get the excitement that you are feeling with it's arrival. It's always fun to get a new air rifle especially a HW. I look forward to reading more about it soon. Keep us posted.

Congratulations Greg. Sounds like you have a winner there. Hope you update this thread after you put a few more shots thru that little beauty.

The new rifles coming through from PA already have the new cocking arm and insert. No more galling issues with the HW50s if you get a new version. Some "older stock" rifles may still have the issue. Best to check with the vendor if ordering a new one.
Greg, congrats on your new shooter. I love mine.

I finally had some decent weather yesterday, so I got to shoot my newly tuned HW50S after sending away to John-N-Pa. It shoots smoother & more consistant than it did before I sent it away for the tune. Now that's all I gotta do is find a place to send the SHOOTER away for a full tune. ;)

What are your pre-tuned and post-tuned numbers?
-
Only have data for 7.89 JSB's till my chrony arrives. Before the tune they averaged 772 fps, and after the tune they went to 796 fps average. Perhaps they will increase a bit with more shooting. And hopefully I will improve also ! ;)

Liv them 50s....
Enjoy the new shooter Greg! Sounds like you got a real one.
Happy shootin!

Thanks everybody, I am tickled. If it'll ever stop raining so I can get out of the shop and onto my bench, I'll stretch her out a bit with some different pellets and maybe see what the chrony says.

Well, the sun only peeked out a little bit but at least it wasn't raining this afternoon. She shot consistent 5/16" Out to Out 5 shot groups at 25 yards off the bench today. Even after the tune, she still prefers the 8.44 gr. JSB Exacts. I'll chrony her after some more after-tune settling in pellets and when the sun is shining.......just out of curiosity.
I thought I liked her before the tune. After the tune, all I can say is, "....what a difference a day/tune makes....", :D

That's good shootin!
