Title: Meet "Lemmy" from Motorhead
Post by: bubba zanetti on February 25, 2015, 07:58:42 PM
It showed up today!

Long and the short my BAM-50 FT project was not getting anywhere. As I have said before, time has been a little of a premium so I PM's Scott and we discussed the magic he could cut loose on my BAM for FT shoots. Long and the short it got boxed up and off it went. Scott worked his magic and its back.

So I have an FT rig all said and done for under 500.00. Thats hard to beat when you look at the other entry level FT rifles.

Pics will be up soon; sorry I know I'll get some grief but low on pic time tonight. Just wanted to post because I am excited!

I actually worked with Motorhead (sound) back in the day ... Lemmy is definitely NOT a precise, surgical shooter - more like some idiot knocked over Your Nitrogen Fill Station on the deck and busted the valve clean off, setting it free in a crowd of guests at a party, LOL ...

THAT said, Nice job on the budget FT !!! I've often thought about getting one of the little guys to hone my skills with, just never could justify the $ - THIS could make me reconsider :)

And to think  ..... he is a new moderator .... telling us this fabricated story about a Motorheaded BAM, if he added some photos, his integrity would still be intact.    :D

LOL! Possibly! I wish my shooting skills were up to snuff like they were in my younger days cuz I would smack talk Joe into the ground. I haven't started to shoot FT yet, but when I do, and I get my groove back he knows I am coming for him  ;D.

I am supposed to meet the South Jersey crew here in the spring when they get together and I really am looking forward to meeting some of the GTA Brothers and Sisters.

;) ;D Good News then you will probably get to meet me also I am an "Honorary" South Jersey boy.  I'm the tattooed bald old fart with the pony tail that annoys Joe by knocking down his targets just before he pulls the trigger. However I have to admit he has an uncanny knack of figuring which paint ball I want to shoot next. ??? ;D ;D

Excellent Don! I am the 6'1", thin, somewhat nerdy looking guy who is 'weird' and plans on having fun with you guys.

p.s. If Joe gets out of line I will have one of my Brick Insurance Polices with me just in case  ;)

Man the abuse is coming on strong in this thread  8)

OK, here it is:

(http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd510/BubbaZanetti2/DSC_0064_zps11oa4zqk.jpg) (http://s1223.photobucket.com/user/BubbaZanetti2/media/DSC_0064_zps11oa4zqk.jpg.html)
(http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd510/BubbaZanetti2/DSC_0067_zpspyrgkv8c.jpg) (http://s1223.photobucket.com/user/BubbaZanetti2/media/DSC_0067_zpspyrgkv8c.jpg.html)

So what did Motorhead do? This was the work completed:

-Regulator & Plenum spacer
-New hammer & poppet springs, O-rings and odd service parts
-Custom LW hammer
-Modify valve, vent air tube, trigger work, barrel prep & do the Final set up ..

So far I have only cocked and fired it a few times and oh how sweet it is! It cocks so EASY and the trigger is just SWEET! I have my Hawke Varmint 4X16X44 scope mounted with FX No Limits rings for FT Hunter Class. Now I just need to find the time to sight in ::)

Here is the work I did…the trigger

(http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd510/BubbaZanetti2/DSC_0065_zpsmnl2abbw.jpg) (http://s1223.photobucket.com/user/BubbaZanetti2/media/DSC_0065_zpsmnl2abbw.jpg.html)

After having a M-Rod I really liked the trigger. So as Ribbon and Motorhead have posted in other BAM threads. I removed the trigger and took my propane torch and placed two smooth pieces of aluminum angle iron in my vise and heated the trigger up and slowly turned the handle to straighten the trigger. I had to remove it a few times with pliers, as it was hot, and re-set it to get it as straight as possible. Once done I just let it cool then installed it and took notice of were my finger liked to be. Marked it with sharpie, grabbed my dremel and cut it off! Then I took files and wet dry and smoothed out the bottom edges. Then took some metal polish and buffed it and here is the result. I am happy. I hated the stock trigger. IMO the most anti-ergonomic trigger I have ever dealt with. But easily remedied.

And here is what I drink to ignore you guys!

And Pappy, yes 16 Mile is not very far from me ;D My wife and I love the craft brews that have been popping up everywhere and trying different ones. This has ben one of my favorites lately.

Cant wait to sight the BAM in!

Very nice BZ. Looks a lot like a Brocock Concept I had. When Motorhead tunes/builds a rife you know its a shooter. Good luck in FT and enjoy "Lenny". Mike at TKO made an LDC for the Concept that made it almost as quiet as an Mrod.

Update:

Like the Sumatra, I finally got some trigger time with the BAM. It didn't go as well as the Sumatra did LOL! Well at first anyway.

First, the bad, which wasn't really bad but I was having a  really hard time getting it to group the pellets I had with me which were JSB 10.34 grain and H&N Barracudas 10. whatever grain in head sizes 4.5.4.51 and 4.52. Broke out the chorny and was only getting 450 fps at 2900 psi fill: OK, something was clearly wrong. calmed down and started thinking logically and had my buddy watch the chony display and I just started to shoot over the chony and he would read the numbers out loud. The FPS was slowly climbing. OK< valve lock. I bled some air out. Now shooting in the 600 fps range. At around 2000 psi the BAM came alive. Now shooting in the mid 800's. AT 1900 PSI started at 920 FPS and accuracy went through the roof as compared to before. Well that solved the problem LOL!

Unfortunately I didn't have many H&N's and burned many up when I was first testing so I couldn't fully settle on what pellet to buy en masse, but here were my results with what I had.

1. JSB 10.34 grain. Had lots of these, a full tin. Shoots about a quarter size group at 25 yards. Fine for plinking but not FT shooting.

2. Crosman Brown Box 10.5 grain-Now these results were interesting almost one hole and then I would get a flyer every 5th or so pellet ???. That is EXACLTY what they did BEFORE the BAM was tuned too so due to the occasional flyer they are out.

3. The H&N 4.50mm head Barracuda Matches appear to be THE BOMB. I only had 15 left, but starting at 1900 psi was pretty much a ragged pellet sized hole at 25 yards. I had some outside the hole by a tad and that was me. I needed another 15-20 to really get a firm grasp if these are the pellet for the BAM or not.

4. The H&N 4.51mm and 4.52 mm heads shot nickel sized groups. Fine for plinking NOT FT shooting.

So I ordered up a small variety of Beeman and H&N 10 grain pellets from Jim and Nancy and the testing will continue. I ordered 50 of the H&N 4.50 mm heads and will start with those first ;D and once I get the right pellet, I will post results!

With that said I am really happy to have a base to start with and I can work on testing in my yard, so that will be nice. Also, I want to point out that Motorheads trigger work is EXCELLENT on the BAM. It feels very 'two-stage' but the second is very subtle change and really helps keep you focused on final trigger pull and target acquisition. I really, really like the trigger.

Sorry don't have more, but I will update when I do 8)
