Hey everyone.. Looking for a few opinions on long range scopes. Been searching old posts and reviews and really like the hawke sidewinder 6.5x20. That being said, i cant freakin afford it.. Or i could, but it would be very irresponsible of me, seeing that i bought a kalibr cricket, due to be delivered tomorrow.
So I have two possibles.. Hawke varmint 6x24 or aeon 6x24... If anyone has experience with any of these i beg u to please chime in because im ready to pull the trigger..( on the purchase that is).. Or any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks in advance

Take a look at these options. A lot of guys here like these.

Thanks for the reply mobile. The benchmarks look pretty good and definitely a possibility. Ive never used one myself or a hawke for that matter so im relying on reviews from websites to make my decision which makes me nervous. Whenever i start leaning towards one, i always seem to find a negative review that puts me back at square 1 lol..

You can afford a sidewinder, get ahold of Dave at Irwin Archery?. I may have the name wrong. Get ahold of starlingassasin on here, he has his contact info
-
Tim may be referring to Wyvern Archery. I have heard they make great deals on scopes. I personally prefer the Hawke based on quality and warranty. I currently have three Hawkes and have had trouble with none.
Check the bargain gate on this site. I think somebody said Jim's Sporting Goods (or somebody) had the Hawke Varmint in 6-24 X 44 for $137 plus shipping.

I have used both and both are excellent. The aeon was a little clearer with thicker lines but was 10 or 12 oz heavier. If I had to pick it would be the Varmint.

Buds prices on the sidewinders are so great I had to order a 4.5-14x42 even though at this time of year its just gonna sit.
-
I dont blame you.. You wont regret when the snow melts and the prices are back up.. Ill be using mine when the cricket arrives come *(&^ or more snow..

I also just ordered a Hawke varmint 6-24x44
only what I did was had opticsplanet price match Bud'sgunshop ($148 shipped)
just ordered it today...It'll be the first side-wheel I've ever held/seen/used!
just hoping it doesn't disappoint...

If you call him he will, I do not want to say in a open forum. I don't want him to be tagged for selling below suggested selling price, but you will be shocked. And its actually Wyvern Archery.

Tim thanks for the heads up. Next time I need a scope or someone asks where to buy a scope I will mention Irwin Archery.
Joseph you will not be disappointed. The Varmint is a real nice scope and at 18 oz not too heavy yet it feels solid in your hand. Post your thoughts in this thread after you have used it for awhile.

The weight is part of the reason I bought it,
Will do as long as I remember... ::) ;)

understood I'll see about getting in touch with him

I had tried wyvern a few days ago and they are out of office till monday i believe.. Buds price on the the 6.5-20 was jus to darn good to pass up and i wanted to jump on it before anything changed...Which it did today...
On that note, my new cricket .25 came in today and my first impression is...HOLY #@$^!!!!! I didnt get to get outside too long due to 4 feet of snow and a wind chill that would stop you dead in your tracks.. That being said i had a target set at 40 yds, that wasnt completely engulfed in snow. With a wally world special bushnell 4-16 scope, and arctic gusts of wind, this thing was putting all pellets in the same hole...literally!!
Out of four clips i think i had two pellts that were fliers, but still within .25-.35 in. from one hole poi... Its safe to say that this gun had me at "hello"

Congrats on the cricket!

Alright my scope came yesterday!
First impressions:
1) Very good packaging by opticsplanet A+
2) lightweight
3)Much nicer than my old UTG as far as adjustments go
the power wheel is much smoother and
I'm looking forward to using the side-wheel!
and the turret adjustments are much better than my UTG...
Looking forward to mounting it when things warm up and doing some side by side comparisons
with my UTG, Nikon, and Leupold scopes!

Now that's what I call a good review, comparing a scope to it's piers. I reject all reviews of I own one, therefore it's the best, bar none. Photos and videos, please, the more the better. Loooking forward to reading your review. Thanks.

My sidewinder should be delivered tomorrow, from what I could find out I should be amazed.

That's what I'm going to try an do but it won't be perfect...
(the scope don't match each other very well :-\...but for what its worth...
and its going to take a while...(can't start till it warms up and I'll be working full time...)
The scope I can compare it to are:
Leupold rifleman 3-9x40
Nikon pro-staff 3-9x40 possibly a 4-12
and a UTG 4-16x50
Tips on how to go about it?
Let us know what you think of the sidewinder ;)

I just got to examining my sidewinder a few minutes ago, packaging isn't quite what I thought it would be, but it could of been done worse and everything seemed in order, I tested what I could, everything feels solid and seems to work (only thing I didn't actually test was the adjustment knobs, they pop up and im sure they will work, if for some reason they don't there is Hawkes warranty which everybody seems to have a good experience with if they need it)
At 4.5x magnification and 10 yard focus things were clear at less than 5 yards, illumination seems more powerful than needed at high settings, should be very usable on low settings.
Really top notch scope, can't wait to actually mount and use it when the weather gets much better.
I have no doubt that if you want one of the best scopes you can get for an airgun, a sidewinder is it.
