Title: Difference between newer and older Discovery
Post by: GLPalinkas on February 17, 2015, 08:03:50 AM
Posted this on another forum but no responses in a week.

"I am picking up a 5 year old Disco from a GTA board member and I am wondering the differences between the 5 yr old model and one purchased from a vendor now. What changes have been made? Thanks for any help."

This has my interest also. I got my 22 Disco in June of 2014 and I have no chrony. From the postings it seems the newer models have a lower shot count but hit harder. :D

I don't know what year they did but I believe crosman
exchanged the hammer spring for a heavier one and in doing raised the
power and shortened the shot count.
not sure if there are any other differences?

I purchased my Discovery .22 from Pyramyd Air in August, 2013.  I hunt with it and take Fox Squirrels with mostly head shots.  The Box Domes (14.3 gr.) pass through about 90% of the time.  Most of the shots are beyond 25 yards this time of the season.

Have never had a new one to take apart next to my old one to do a direct comparison, but from what I can tell at a distance (and from posts) all the parts will interchange…so there’s not been a redesign.

Were some little things that changed from the firsts ones to now.  Was an o-ring on the valve stem on the early ones, the stock was slightly different shape, first year stocks were walnut, and the very first ones sent out fro tests used the simple plastic front sight of the 2260.  Might be a few other small things changed that I forget.

Does seem Crosman upped the power in the last year or two which lowers the number of good shots.  Probably buy use of a stronger striker spring than was used on the older versions.

When the Disco first came out, the complaints were about power rather than shot string and many posts were about upping the power.  Guess Crosman listened, and now the gun has more power, but also fewer good shots.

Thanks everyone for the info. Ribbonstone summed up the changes and that is what I expected.
I have a .25 Marauder so I'm not worried about the power but more with shot count.
I will probably add a power adjuster just because. I expect that I will be humping the much lighter Discovery around more in the woods than my Marauder.

Thanks again for the help.... this is a great forum.
