Ok members as most of you may know, I have a HW95 in .22cal. It has never been opened up. Never tuned and no internal parts have been messed with, replaced or anything of that type. My questions to you are: When is a .22cal pellet too heavy for a springer? Meaning I have tried the 18gr JSB's but that is the heaviest that I had and tried. I looke on straight shooters website and you know how they show the different pellets that they shoot out of each gun? Well I seen the Kodiaks, Barracudas, the JSB Monsters and obviously they had 10ft/lbs of energy @50yds.
Now i know that it shouldn't matter what you shoot for as long as it is accurate out of your gun, but would any of you worry about the weight of these pellets? Worry about the longevity of your guns innards? Worry about speed/time to/on target (if hunting)? Even though heavy pellets should help buck the wind but with the slower speed, does that become irrelevant?

My 22 cal springer holds about 23 fpe when shooting medium weight (13-16 grain) ammo. The velocity for these pellets runs 870-820 fps with a nice flat trejectory. When I try shooting heavies (i.e. 21 grain) my velocity drops to low 600's, the energy drops to 19fpe and the trejectory - Not so flat. I don't shoot the heavy weights anymore.

;D I have my RX2 .20 tuned to 20 FPE with Beeman FTP 11.42 pellets. I think if you are looking for higher power you will have greater success with a PCP .25 cal

Use whichever pellet gives you the best accuracy. Don't worry about "bucking the wind" because if you are not shooting the most accurate pellet whatever bucking the pellet may be doing is irrelevant. For the best candidates for accuracy, try JSB Exact Jumbo 15.89 grain pellets. These are available in 5.51 and 5.52mm head sizes. JSB Express is worth trying also. H&N Field Target Trophy pellets are a candidate for best accuracy. They are a 14.66 grain pellet, available in 5.53, 5.54, and 5.55mm head size. You will have to try the different pellets to determine which your particular gun shoots best. There is a chance that it shoots JSB Heavy pellets (18.1 grains) best, and it your gun is that rare HW95 that does, then by all means use them.

I have an HW80 and I think I may have damaged the spring shooting too heavy of pellets-the JSB Exact Jumbo 18 gr grain pellets, some H&N 21gr and maybe a few 25gr. I doubt I shot more than 50 pellets maybe I did but not "lots" of pellets. The stock screws and scopes screws all came loose. The rifle shot great with the JSB 18 gr. I've since stayed with the 14+ and 15.89 gr pellets. The rifle isn't grouping well. It may be "operator error", but I'm going to check out the spring.
