Some time back. I thought I read on GTA that a spring from a HW 50 could be used in a HW 30. It may have been that it could only be done with Mccarri or Vortek springs.
Has anyone heard of doing this?

Can't absolutely confirm it ... But being BOTH rifles are HW's and in the @ similar stroke and power range would not surprise me. Fit correct guide and pre-load specs likely very doable.
** Question back at you would be WHY YOU ASKING or CONSIDERING doing it ?

My OEM 30S spring is 7 1/4 inches and my 50S spring is 9 3/4 inches. I don't think it will work unless shortened. You could go the other way and space the 30 spring for use in the 50.

Does your 30S have spacers or a thick top hat ?
* If coil diameters are similar, the 50 spring will go in ( No top hat or spacers ) and require more pre load to get assembled ... Whats telling is if with the greater pre load you can cock the action without coil bind of the spring.
It it does fit & cock ... shot cycle feel and velocity really the final word IMO :o

Depending on the pellet used my HW 30s shoots at 600fps+-. I would like about 750-800 fps. The HW 30 is a sweet little bun but if I had to do it over I would have bought the 50. It will serve my purposes better. Don't suggest buying the HW 50. If I had the money I would have done it.

HW35 sits in a very unique power spot tad more than a 50, full size, easy cocking and accurate as all get out !!
Tho a LOT more expensive
