I have a Hatsan 135 that has the plastic front sight, and appears to be press fit on the barrel, as there are no screws or grooves holding it in place. I'd like to remove the sight without destroying it, and replace it with a muzzle brake. I've tried a piece of wood and a hammer, but managed only to chip it. I'd like to salvage the sight of possible. Help please !!

Joe,
I just knocked off mine by putting a 1" chisel directly behind the downward sloping, sight part. Of course it put a large cut in the plastic, but the sight is a real POS. Can't imagine anyone wanting these "cheap" open sights on the 135.
Anyway, Ezman604 wrote a post a few year back about drilling a 2"x 2" block (or bigger) with a hole big enough so it would fit firmly on the rear of the plastic sight. Cut the block in half, through the center of the hole and then fit the block back (onto the barrel) behind the sight (screws or something holding halves together). Then whack with a mallet. The point is to apply equal pressure to the rear part of the sight cap to drive off.
I would recommend you look for this old post as I'm probably not doing it "justice".

You also need to heat it with a hot air gun, for easier removal.

Also a shot of PB Blaster!
