Hello. As the title says im trying to find a scope to use on my ruger air-hawk. Ive been using the iron sights for the past year to dispatch any nuisance squirrels/crows and rattlesnakes. But now the rear iron sights have broke and are free sliding so Ive started to try and find a cheap scope to use. maybe debating whether to just get a co2 or pneumatic to use with a red dot i have but dont know if a co2 is strong enough for snakes and squirrels.
heres 2 that i have found dont know if they would even work.
CVLIFE Tactical 3-9x40 Optics R4 Reticle Crosshair Air $30.99
Ledsniper 3-9x56 Red&green Mil-dot Illuminated Optics Hunting Air Rifle Scope $36.99

I have this on my Diana 48. It has survived at least 4 tins of pellets and still going strong. $54 to my door IIRC.

I've got a Hammers 3-9x32 AO on my Airhawk and a Rex 4-12x40 AO on my Blackhawk. Both were in the $50-60 range and both are airgun rated (something you are going to want when mounting a scope on a springer).
You might also want to consider adding a one piece mount to further make life easier for whichever scope you choose.

Believe it or not I'm still using the cheap ol' scope that came with my Air Hawk I guess for 4 or 5 years now.
Still works fine for my 30 yd. shooting. Maybe I got a good one!
-
Was trying to keep it under $40 cause theres a few used co2 rifles running around locally for around $50. Tried the scope it came with already got it sighted in and 3 shots later its off by 6 inches sight it in again go to use it next day 2 feet off at 30 yards so think i got a bad one.
-
Are all the screws tight on the gun? I just had my Air Hawk out yesterday after a long sit in the corner...6 months or more... and it still was right on. This is the only air rifle I have a scope on,the rest being open sighted.
-
Yep screws where first thing i checked. Maybe the pellets? any decent pellet testing kits to try?
-
The first scope that came with the 'Hawk died a quick death so I got it replaced under warranty. The replacement is holding up. I'm trying one of the Hammers 3-9x32 AO scopes on the Diana 52 after it killed a Leapers UTG 4x32 AO. One tin of pellets on the Hammers and it hasn't been eaten by the 52... Yet.

A Hawke Sport HD 3-9x40 AO with a Hawke one piece mount will do the job...

That doesn't have an adjustable objective (AO) and won't focus clearly closer than, say, 20-30 yards, correct? Otherwise it looks to be a heck of a deal. I can't say I've ever shot a rattlesnake, but I'm guessing that's fairly short range hunting and I think the OP needs an AO scope that will let it focus down to the 6-10 yard range, which would probably rule out this Hawke and the two scopes the OP listed in the first post.
If you're trying to stay in the under-$40 range, you might want to consider this Winchester at $29.99, which I believe is the lowest-price AO scope on the market that isn't a no-name scope you're buying straight from China off eBay:

Springer rated for 30-40 bucks is going to be just about impossible to find that will last on a scope-eating Air Hawk! Definitely PM Longhunter and get those iron sights from him!!

Ty for all the scope suggestions. Have a question while im at it been thinking of adding another springer to my collection for under $200 and from what ive found the Black Ops tactical sniper (gas piston version) seem pretty good. Is the a better or more accurate gun for the price?
-
This can be had at Wally World for under $200. It is a Trail action in a Venom Dusk style stock.

Local walmart doesnt hve that but amazon does for 180 so not bad only thing is its .22 and can only get .177 localy so would have to buy online but not a huge problem. How accurate is it?
-
Crosman break-barrel. It can be accurate, but generally they need tweaking. Everything can be done at home with minimal tools.
The biggest thing is deburring the inside. Replacing the pivot washers with bronze thrust bearing keeps the barrel centered.
There are many tweaks that can be done. Good instructions can be found in the GTA Library.

I have one of those on my hawk. it's holding up well. over 15,000 rounds and not a hiccup. do yourself a favor. get a one piece mount, no matter what scope you get.

No problem - great minds think alike ;D

Snatched up a scope. While i was at it picked up a straight shooters full pellet sampler. Any more recomendations for an accurte sub $200 gun will only use it for doves and squirells under 30 yards so not huge on power but wouldnt mind poping ballons at 100 yards if possible?
-
leapers utg hunter 4x32 with a mill dot reticle $39.97 on the pyramid air site and a 4x is good to 30yd no prob in my book.I have a 3x9x32 cp on my airhawk and it has taken 4,000 or more rounds but it is $60 at your local Wal-Mart.
-
sorry :o guess I was slow on the draw
-
Better late thn never scope I got was similar to that.Any suggestions for a new gun?
-
I noticed you had the .45 sam yng in your pic heard its powerful enough for deer? Any idea if thats true? If it is might be my 2nd air gun since Ive been looking at a gun for deer hunting. Might even try and save up for the airfoce texan when it comes out.
-
Well here in texas I can not take whitetail with a air rifle but have taken very large coons, nutria and a 100lb pig, I group about 3in at 100 yards with the eppug cast bullets that I pour myself. It is just over 200ft lb and is a hammer on game. I would have no problem taking a shot a deer but would not do it past 60 to 70 yards
-
Yea here in florida you can rarely get past 30-40 yards decent thick woods at least here =P. Did you do any mods to make it shoot 200fpe?
-
Nope no mods shoots 220fpe right out of the box for me
