Title: Other old Daisys pumpers?
Post by: DavidS on January 19, 2015, 11:17:13 PM
Are there any pre Daisy 880 MultiPump AirRifles from Daisy?

Or did they not wish to compete with Crosman before the 880?

I have tried every kind of search I can think of, and I can not find anything that is helpful in knowing if they made any others.

I like the Daisy Multi Pump AirRifles.   I also like the quality of older AirRifles, and would like to get an older .22 cal Daisy pumper if such a thing exists (pre 1970).

they imported some springers, but the 880/881 was daisy's first msp although they tried many after that.

Ok thank you much.   Well I do like my Daisy 880 metal receiver, metal pump, with rifled barrel, same with my 881.

I am looking at a slight change in direction to my AirGuns.

one thing you might look for is DAISY ADVERTIZEMENTS in magazines of the time, like outdoor life and such. that's part of how i found the 880 variants. these is usually some add copy touting the specs and features. i have seen an add from '72 that proudly introduces the new 880/881, "daisy's first adult pneumatic airguns."

Thank you for that.   I am mostly looking for the .22 cal Daisy pumpers now.   I am not sure what the models are for the older ones.

To give an idea of what I am looking for, take a look at this thread:

Do you know what the older .22 cal Daisy pumpers are, and what years?

I have an late 1990's or very early 2000's Powerline 856 pellet only. A fun multi pump I should fool with more than I do. They stopped making them around 2004 do to a law suit.

I will have to look out for those.  Thank you.

as to daisy/crosman dynamic... i think for a long time they were complementary. i mean that crosman didn't really have many models that competed with daisy either. daisy had the bb gun and pop-gun (toy) markets (and the bb manufacturing capability), crosman had the pumpers (with benji and dan a step above), and the euros had the springer's. that was the dynamic from the '30's till the early '70's.

i mean, the daisy started as a toy to shoot ball-bearings with around the windmill shop. just imagine if that happened in the '60's, the boss would have checked it out, shot it and exclaimed "that's groovy man." then 125 years later they all shoot cans with their Groovy's....
