Title: Case Recommendations
Post by: Nitrocrushr on January 19, 2015, 10:23:39 PM
Any recommendations for a nice case that will fit my TX200?  Didn't realize just how big this rifle/scope combo was til I tried fitting it in every case I own with no success.  With the Optisan Viper I have no soft cases that will fit.  Right now I am using an extra tall soft case but am unable to zip it completely closed due to the height of the elevation turret.  I also have an old hard case, but the foam is kind of thin (and so is the case).  I can get it closed but the width of the windage/focus turrets press out on the sides of the case, not good.

I'd prefer to use a hard case with a gun sock over the rifle to keep it away from the foam.  Any suggestions on one that will fit and have thick enough foam to conform around the windage and focus turrets?

This one from Midway is what I use for the TX:

I just bought one of these...

WOW, one of the best soft sided cases I have ever seen.  Nothing but rants about it.  The price makes it even better.
Heavy duty, great looking zippers, pouches all over the place, straps inside, thick padding, I can't like it enough.

This fits my 'full size' Diana 54, with scope and sling, easily.  I only bought one because my other "half dozen" cases would not fit.

This is a soft case, but made very well with plenty of room, shoulder strap, bull nose and plenty of storage.
I have 2 of them for quite a while and have no complaints.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Joe, that case looks like it would be tall enough.  No problems zipping it up over the turrets?

Plenty of room Steve!!
Here's a pic of my 97 with a 6-24x56 Sidewinder on top.
Plenty of room and I love that the tip of the case is reinforced with a thick plastic boot and tons of storage!

My suggestion is go with a hard case, I have tried hard and soft cases, both protect the rifle but the hard case has a better chance of keeping the scope in place. A hard case is going to be a little heavier but offers better protection.

Plano makes some nice hard cases with the foam included. Companies make the foam inserts that mold around the rifle then fits in any hard case. The last soft case I bought has straps to hold the rife in place and is very well padded but if its hit a certain way(happens often) the scope is a bit off.

I travel with hard cases.
I use the Midway case during FT matches, station-to-station.
You can also open it flat and lay on it for the prone positions.
