Hey hey. So, the CPHPs I'm shooting right now are an older batch that I had previously cleaned and they're shooting well. But, I'm running out and picked up a couple thousand more from Wally World and I was just wondering if I should bother cleaning the next tin. Opinions? Advice?
Also, I think I cleaned the first batch using a little vinegar and baking soda, then gave them a good rinse... are there easier ways? It was a long time ago, so I don't remember exactly how I did it, but I'm a big fan of the vinegar/baking soda combo so I'm assuming that's what I did. :-\
Thanks!

I used my brass tumbler(vibe.really)an new corn cob media,it worked Mark(cleaned the *(&^ out of them)but I should of used something on them because they did oxidize rather quick an a real pain to seperate back out of the media. I took about 200 next an placed them in a tin with hot water an a drop of dish soap an gave it a lenght of gentle shaking, rinse well, dry on towel in sun an so far they have stayed shiney(no black finger's). I did all this to see if "I" could find better acc. out of them an really I could not tell any difference in group's ,but Hey my finger's stay cleaner an they smell lemon fresh.

What I've heard a lot of folks do is wash the pellets in a mild dish wash and hot water. Pour them into a strainer (buy one and use it ONLY for lead pellets or your mate may kill you if the lead poising doesn't :o). Then use a hair dryer to dry them. Spray a light coat of Pledge on them and you're good to go.
For the record, I've never cleaned a pellet. Shot several tins of Crosman and others in all of my guns.
Happy Shooting!!!!

CPHP or otherwise, I snack straight from the tins. (no cleaning, yes dirty fingers)
Please don't tell me I have to clean them! I'm OCD enuff as it is. :-)

It's only lead. Take lots of Vitamin C to neutralize the lead that may have gotten in your system.
-
that black stuff on them is an oil coating, not lead
-
I thought it was graphite
-
Idk, but I know its not the lead

If you wash them, try a light application of Pledge furniture polish. Some guys find that gives them better accuracy but not always in every gun. I don't wash my pellets but, at least with the last couple tins of Gamo match I picked up, I'm probably going that way, given the lead dust/fragments in the tins. Not graphite, either. The only graphited pellets I know for sure are the Daisy's.

Thanks guys. I like the sound of a no wax shine coating, but I think I'll give them a shot right out of the tin first. If there's no increase in accuracy, then I can handle dirty fingers and less effort. If I do decide to clean them, now I know how. :)
I think my previous cleaning job was maybe a little too thorough. The pic below is one of my older cphps (left) and a new one right outta the tin (right). My experience was minimal when I first got them. Another interesting thing is that the new one seems to have a slightly wider and deeper cup, but it could just be a shiny illusion. I bought the first tin... 2-3 years ago?
Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing how they perform. As long as they do as well as the older ones, I'm good. I'm just glad an inexpensive pellet that I don't have to order online shoots in my 34 compact as well as they do.

i also heard that it is a graphite coating to lube them to fly better and help with wear on the barrel rifeling... don't remember where i heard this tho...........mike

I've been shooting with them for years and have never bothered to clean them and they fly just fine for me ;D

HeeHee
Then you're right back at the same place, dirty fingers and dirty bore.

I clean my CPHP by shoving it in the barrel then shoot.;9)

Yeah, I've always found running them through tree rats cleans them pretty well. :P

Hahahahaha! :D

I tried cleaning pellets to see if there was any real difference. Used pellets from the same tin. 1/2 cleaned the other 1/2 not cleaned. I honestly could not obtain any significant difference. Cleaning pellets not worth the effort for me. Cleaned pellets lubed with a dry wax lube.

I gotta say I agree about the accuracy. Fired a handful of uncleaned pellets so far and there doesn't seem to be any real difference in accuracy at this point. So... I ain't gonna bother cleaning them.
On a side note, whatever they're coated with looks like graphite to me. I've had a lot of that stuff on my hands over the years and it's very similar.

i think all in all, this is a big deal about nothing...........

I have tested wash\no wash, lube\no lube pellets and can't tell any difference in them.
Washing Gamo (or any other brands) pellets that have bits of lead shavings in them, might not be a bad ideal. However, one of my guns would have to like Gamo’s and only Gamo’s the best before I’ll wash them. Luckily none of my guns like Gamo pellets.
After all guys, where will the pellets end-up at? In the dirt in the back yard, be it threw paper, tree rat, or a little bird . 8)

jeez if i thought washing pellets would help me shoot better i would throw them in the washing machine after the divorce LOL!!!! thanks david
-
what is your time worth? i pay the differnce and shoot RWS...they look like they where ran on a lathe by dwarf germans....
-
I've actually found that the Crosmans shoot better in my 34 than any of the RWS pellets other than the Super Mags. Meisterkuglen are not bad, but ya can't find those at Wally world fer $7.00 a tin. :)
-
I cleaned pellets before didn't notice any difference so I just shoot em right out of the tin now.

Graphite is a dry lube. Y'all know that, right?
