Title: RX2 Gas Spring
Post by: Sfttailrdr46 on January 08, 2015, 08:28:23 AM
;D ;D ::) I don't have it but by early next week it will be in my hot little hands. Is it worth buying the fill adaptor for the spring and how difficult to adjust the pressure in the Thoben spring? Does it need to be removed from the rifle? Also will the Hawke Eclipse stand up to the recoil? Final question how difficult to do a complete lube and what is needed?  Very last question this rifle has only about 200 pellets through it so other than clean the barrel and lube the pivot is anything else really needed to get started?

Make yourself a pot of coffee and take a look at this thread from the SS Forum...

Congratulations on the new RX2 acquisition.

Being a fairly new rifle, there isn't too much that should be needed as far as tuning these rifles. They usually already shoot like  tuned rifle to begin with. I'd just enjoy your rifle for the time being and get that barrel nice and seasoned. :) There is a lot of good information on the Internet about these rifles. I suggest you read up as much as you can and study up so you will know what tools, equipment, and step by step instruction you will need if you should decide to rebuild it. Super easy guns to work on, but can be dangerous if you aren't familiar with there construction and the sequence of how they are to be Assembled and disassembled. Enjoy that gas ram shooter. You're in for a real treat. Like nothing you've probably ever shot before. You have to experience it to appriciate it. :) tjk

I also have a interest in the RX-2/HW90

Would the RX-2 be a quieter report than the HW90 or is that a barrel weight on end of barrel?

Kind of confused with PA description:

"It's like the gas spring that holds up the back door of a minivan or hatchback car."

I have replaced 3 sets of these gas springs over the years in my vehicles?

  "Functions perfectly in cold weather"

That's funny, my gas spring in my hatchback car do not function perfectly in cold weather?

What am I missing  :D

Ok I am not the expert on this rifle "yet" however the Theoben gas spring is both adjustable for pressure and a small HP pump is sold for that purpose or like me a small fill adapter will be used with my Hill pump. Second the gas spring has a schrader valve and the pressure can be removed for disassembly and rebuild/repair. This is not a throw away  part like the nitrogen filled gas pistons on your hatch back or some of the other AG's offered with gas rams. The Theoben is filled with HP air like a PCP rifle. I expect to become more knowledgeable in the near future once my RX2 arrives next week

you'll need a pressure gauge and a pump. (and possibly adapter) IF you intend to experiment with different operating pressures. do NOT empty the ram if you don't have the way to refill.

Beeman recommends no more than 24 BAR for the RX

I'm in the same boat waiting on my new HW90!

Which scope mount will you use? I've read a few reviews that say if you don't use the 'dampa' mount these things will just keep eating scopes. I was going to use a bkl mount but Scott at Airgun Depot suggested this Sportsmatch 1-piece.

;D I have a D460 .177 which is a notorious scope  eater and all I did was a droop compensator and double strap rings. Long story short I have the same scope  mounted for almost a year and half with a Hawke Airmax which is close to optical center at 25 yards
