Title: Made a couple of spinners today
Post by: Tater on January 03, 2015, 05:30:28 PM
I haven't been shooting much lately, kind of board punching paper indoors so I made a couple cheap spinners.
In my wooden target box, I drilled a hole in either side and cut a coat hanger to slide through. I bent up two cheap spoons and cut one with tin snips to make it a little smaller. I also drilled a hole through the top of a plastic dinosaur and hung it from a loop of coat hanger. Basically, a free project.
The pics are without the duct seal in back.

Here I added cut piece of a straw as spacers. In the second pic I put a piece white paper behind it to make it easier to see.

Nothing special but maybe it will motivate someone else to make something similar. I'm sure I'll improve on it eventually too.

Looking good Jerry.  I like it and will probably do something like that.  Just shooting paper all winter does get old sometimes.

I made a spoon spinner for outside with 2 plastic sculls as you did the dinosaur, never considered bringing it inside though.  I've got an extra bag of rubber mulch, may use it to add to the indoor backstop.

I think you should man up and go outside to shoot. I did yesterday in the cold rain.  ;)

I hope so, haven't tried it yet.

I would if I could.  :(   Nowhere to shoot outdoors here (townhouse, liberal state...).

Follow up:

WE shot them today and they all work great. Originally we had the concave side facing out and a few pellets popped back out. After we turned them around, no more problems. Shooting them with the P17 or three pumps with the 1377 really sent them flying. No loud "ting" though, they are cheap dollar store spoons we had stored as spares. Cheap metal.

For you at 50 yards, you'd need hang a BB from a piece of thread to make it a challenge.

Nice set up, Jerry. Love the dinosaur.  I'll have to make stop at goodwill and get me some supplies.  I use to shoot the tines off plastic forks the 1377 when I was stuck inside on a rainy day.

Jesse, your the only member of GTA that has the skill to shoot between the raindrops, to avoid a change in your POI.
Stay dry ..... I'm a fair weather shooter, I don't even shoot in the rain in the summer.  I'm a 6'5" 300 lb wuss.   :-\

I learned from Joe P. It was cold and windy today. I was shooting between shakes.  ::)

Made one a few months back, works pretty good. Used all scrap material laying around the shop. one 1" spinner and one 2" Spinner. Made of 1/4"" steel and I think about a 3/8" steel rod. I also just use Some S hooks and welded them to the plate after straightening one end out. Bent a pointed hook (folded over) on the bottom so when you stick it in the ground it doesn't swivel on you. Handles a .25 cal PCP very well, I have shot it with my .357 big bore Cricket and my Sam Yand Recluse but it is starting show some bending using a big bore on it lol

I like this because I can just stick it in the ground and leave it and if I feel like practicing I just step out and start blasting. I need to make some heavier ones for my Big Bores.

Video of me shooting the spinner with my custom modded Disco ...

I need to make one like that with a good backstop in it, and some heavy spinners, I like the Idea of just putting the rod through the box trap. Wish I had my garage/shop built, then I could make all kinds of cheap toys for us to play around with!
