Had an opportunity today to shoot both my R7 and my R1, rested, at targets from 20 to 50 yards.
Both are .177 and both were scoped with mag set at 16x.
When I have done this in the past, I always get significantly tighter groups with the R7. I have always used basically the same technique with both guns. Specifically, slow squeeze on the trigger.
After about 50 shots thru each gun today at 20 yards, I was getting the familiar result. Better accuracy with the R7.
Then I focused on the fact that I was flinching ahead of the R1's recoil on a few shots. So I tried a quicker trigger pull than I had been using previously. Not a snap, just quite a bit crisper than a slow squeeze.
The next three groups of five shots were nearly the same size as my R7 groups. Very tight. I then went back to the slow squeeze and the groups opened up again. Then to a quick pull and they shrank significantly. After about 50 shots, I had groups similar in size to those with the R7. Not as tight, but close, and vastly better than with the slow squeeze technique.
This all surprised me. But it was great to learn something that helped me shoot my R1 more accurately.
Going out to hunt quail tomorrow so hopefully this info will help me bag some game.
Curious if any others have experienced something similiar?

Hey Rob.
I think it depends on the rifle.
My Pro Sport likes a slow steady pull.
98 likes a quicker steady pull.
97 & TX will shoot well either way.
