Title: Which PCP: Marauder or Rainstorm??
Post by: Stacker on February 03, 2011, 06:40:32 PM
I'm looking for my one PCP in .22 cal. Right now, its either a Marauder or a Rainstorm. My prime, most important requirement is accuracy right out of the box. I want to punch paper and hunt, not tinker with the rifle. I know that there is about $200 difference in cost, but that is not too important; accuracy at 50/60 yards is!

I'd like to keep the cost of the rifle below $750. Any other suggestions in this price range? All input and experiences that you care to share will be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

I have a .22 marauder and its lethal out to 60 yards no problem. If I do my part its a one hole gun out to 40-45 yards.I have heard good things about the rainstorm, but I dont think it can be adjusted as much or as easy as the marauder

The Marauder is very well proven, very adjustable, and has great factory and parts support.

I don't have a Rainstorm, but I don't think it could make the last two claims. I haven't shot a Rainstorm, either, and I imagine they are nice. I have learned to look at the latter items if you plan on keeping it.

Manny aka NomadicPirate has had both the Marauder and the Rainstorm, but he sold the Marauder because it wasn't quite to his liking.
You could ask him for some of his thought on the matter.

I would buy the .25 Marauder. More positive reviews on the .25 than the .22. The .25 should easily reach out to 50 yards.

The .22cal Marauder pistol is a cool airgun, but 30-40 yrds max range. I would rather hunt with it than the heavy rifle.

OK, thanks guys. Looks like the majority is leaning toward the Marauder.

I sure hope that NomadicPirate chimes in! Meanwhile, please keep the opinions and comments coming.

I have a .22 Rainstorm. The stock is much more comfortable than the Mrod. It is way more powerful as well. Trigger may need some fine tuning. Side lever works flawlessly and the mags are easy to use. I wouldn't disregard it so fast my friend. Tons of shots per fill as well.

I have no way to compare, but the marauder is 190 dollars cheaper from pyramyd air...  seems the rainstorm has more power... but is that little bit worth the extra money???  Is the rainstorm that more accurate than the marauder???  How is thier customer service???  crosman has a very good customer service..  Just a few things to consider.

Like the looks of the Rainstorm and have ALMOST bought one. But the customer service cannot compare to Crosman's. A few complaints about broken stocks on the net and one 'leaker' . Pyramid air had some 'pre-owned' (returned) Rainstorm rifles, I have never seen a pre-owned Marauder on their website. I own 3 M-rods now. They are a good value in PCP IMHO. One day I will build or buy a nicer wood stock (my only complaint).

I have a Rainstorm in .22 and a Marauder in .177.  Both are very accurate.  The Rainstorm is lighter, shorter and fits me better.  Love the Marauder too but I will probably rework and refinish the stock.  My Rainstorm was used from Pyramyd Air for 500.00  I did send the first one back because it had pellet clipping issues.  I requested they inspect the second used one they sent and it was perfect.  The Rainstorm hits with some real authority.  But as we all know it's all about pellet placement.  Critters wind up just as dead with the Marauder.  You can't go wrong with either.

Another vote for the Marauder 8)

Side Note: Evanix Rifles are known to be over powered and the shot strings are not very nice. ( no bell Curve, Just down, down)

Meanwhile I can tune a nice bell curve for 40-50 shots  with 30fpe avg. the Mrod

A guy showed a picture of a group from his detuned .22 Rainstorm and had 80 pellets inside a quater at 35 yards :)

I had the Rainstorm .22 and Maurader .25,..... Magazine & action are not even in the same ballpark, stock,..well 190 extra bucks are worth it just for the stock, you can detune the Rainstorm to Maurader Power, but you cannot tune the Maurader to Rainstorm power, That is in .22

At 50 FPE I still get 22-24 shots at the same POI at 30 yards, than i go to lighter pellets and still get a good mag.

All in all I think the Rainstorm is by far the better rifle, a little to work on the baffel spacers to avoid clipping, but otherwise an awsome rifle
