The air ranger 50.ft.lb is simply a beast. had been filling it to 230bar but filled to 250 bar and shot off this string down to 110 bar. 50 shots holding the same POI works for me. While I'm not power hungy this rifle will make you grin and grunt. using the 21 baracuda gets me 50 ft.lbs but I like the jsb 18.13 more. anything less than 18.13 slightly spirals on its way to the target at distance except at 150bar then they fly true.
then tried some cuda match and jsb 25.39gr just to hit 50ftlbs. I'm not into larger calibers but don't mind a .22 that hits like a .25
I'm definately going to get a few more daystates.

that is a great rifle and you did exhaustive work on the stats but what kind of groups are you getting at 50-85 yds to me that is the most important stat of all
-
;D Ok Grady now you have my attention I may have to expand my want list again . Right now I am getting the Air Arms S510 Extra Fac .25 dialed in and ready to sell. Then I will start to shop for my next "LAST"rifle ;) ;D #1 are the RAW HM1000X or another Daystate :-\
-
50 yards pretty much hole in hole 1/8 to 1/4 groups, 80 yards one ragged hole 1/4 to 1/2.
also, this rifle is pretty much the way I brought it out the box, no extensive work done (havn't even cleaned the barrel yet), heck, I wouldn't even know where to start on this one and if I did i wouldn't. this rifle was meant to be a beast, untamed and unadulterated.
I like the way it shoots, sends that .22 down range with a lot of extra stank on it.*L*
-
Grady, that is a sweet rifle you have there. Daystate accuracy is amazing. One question for you. Where did you get the program/spread sheets for tracking your information? Is it available to the public or something you created?I would like to be able to track my rifles like that. I'm just not that good in creating Excel spreadsheets. LOL!

I havn't shot a RAw yet but if I can get a .22 delivering the kind of stank the air ranger does. I'll drive down there and pick it up.

hunted it down on the web, here's a attachment, if it doen't work I'll post a link to one of my web servers

Don't ever do what I am about to suggest then...:D
Get a 12 bull target, and at 50 yards put 5 into each bull. Repeat at 80 yards on another sheet. Average the max c-c distances for each group.
cheers,
Douglas

I'll give it a go in the near future, the most I've done was 5 shots at 50 and 80 with three 1/2 inch targets. (those little colored ring stickers)
-
1/4"-1/2" groups with the 21 barracudas at 80 yards sounds good enough ( excellent ) to me.
Some may not appreciate the penetration power the .22 cal. 21 grain barracuda/kodiack pellets have - when traveling over 900 fps.
Though I feel certain some of the hunters of deer, hog, etc., that go for a brain shot do.
Enjoy/shoot your rifle the way you want to, it sounds like a good one ;D

Now that is what I am talking about. excellent accuracy. would you believe my LGU in 177 shoot 5 into a .30 hole at 53 yds. it is PCP accurate and does nothing bad that a springer is known for
-
Interesting that you are getting the same POI at 999 fps that you are at 1097 at 80 yards.... pretty remarkable.... Any idea how that is happening?....
Bob

here's a few more spreadsheets. Enjoy.
for me, shooting groups is important up to a point. it lets me know where the rifle and or I stand at for consistancy. once that's determined, then i focus on precision and accuracy. shooting at various targets at various distances in changing conditions is what my main goal is. I can shoot at a static target all day. after a while it gets boring and it doesn't reflect my ability. one target, one shot, hit or miss. I also like picking straight from the tin, that unknown variable makes it even more a challenge. I know I'm not going to hit every target on one shot and I'm not even going to think I can. but when I'm in my zone, it's lights out.
what really wow's me with the daystate is the power and accuracy. lets just say my back yard is a target rich envirionment and I've seen the devastation this rifle produces on targets.
at the last fun shoot, a young lad picked up this rifle and repeatedly hit a 1 inch bell plunger at 50 yards. honestly, I get more of a thrill watching others shoot my rifles than I do.

Bob
no not at 80 yards, at 50.
-
OK, 50 then.... Curious, because Chairgun predicts a 0.69" vertical change in the POI with those pellets at those velocities.... Strange things happening there for sure, I wish I understood what....

Wow, Grady!
Any pics of the groups and Beast?

Sorry but That I would have to see to believe :o

my quote was 50 shots holding the same POI works for me.
this comment below is not related to 50 shots.
"50 yards pretty much hole in hole 1/8 to 1/4 groups, 80 yards one ragged hole 1/4 to 1/2."
-
So then how many shots do you claim for this comment (( 80 yards one ragged hole 1/4 to 1/2."))
Just asking 8)
-
Wow, Grady!
Any pics of the groups and Beast?
Joe
none of recent. I have no reason to exaggerate or deceive. besides, many have shot them

earlier post.

my quote 50 shots refers to this.
did one with 10, and another at 20.

do I get a verdict? guilty or not guilty? *L*
I probably could've clarified in more detail.

I didn't mean anything, just wanted to really see a pic of your AG.

where is everyones sense of humor?*LOL* it's late festivus.
although I can see how the my original post wording could be misconstrued.

That's about what I expected to see.... The first 5 groups are at the same POI (2% ES), still close for the next three (5% ES), and then falling as the velocity drops....

I think I see the error of my original post. I should've used POA not POI.
that does sound a bit of an exaggeration.
I don't focus on shooting a lot of groups, 1. it gets boring, 2. the target is at a static distance. I've seen guys shoot great groups then miss at various distances.

A little story;
About 9 years, or so, ago, I ordered one of the Daystate Air Rangers - I believe it was the 80 fpe version ( I wanted the high power version :o ). I unboxed it, filled it up with air, went out onto the back porch and shot it about 4- times ( I can remember how it still had the tags on it ). Then, I said to myself; WOW!! Then; it couldn't have been more than 5 minutes total ( it didn't take long ) I called up AOA and asked them for a RMA number, I realized in very short order, there was no way I was going to be able to shoot this thing on my property - and I live on just over 10 acres.
Just saying: Barrel shrouds = Life is VERY Good! ;D

very true, power corrupts. I don't know why I brought this one myself, just had to have a daystate and fx but after getting it, I wouldn't part with it. something about this rifle brings out the neanderthal in me.*LOL* picking it up and shooting it is like discovering fire for the first time.
now there are a couple large calibers I plan to get. a 303 wolverine and a .30 fx boss but after I get the others on my list.(probably when my eyes are bad and my aim shakey)
but I do understand the thrill with power.

Love the power also. But it has to come with accuracy. Grady if/when you go .30 cal you will love it. I took a squirrel out @ about 60-65 yrds with my Boss. When the pellet hit, it flipped the squirrel off of the limb. I don't think I've ever done that with a .22 RF before at that distance. Got to love those big pellets. I still hunt a lot with my .22 Regal. It just doesn't have that satisfying "THUMP" when the pellet hits. :D
-
;D Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely ;D I keep looking at the .357 just don't know which one to choose

similiar boat we share.*L* mine not so much power but what brand and model.
been reading how to reprogram the air wolf. just not ready to take the step to .25 or higher caliber. old habits die hard.*LOL*
-
;D For me it has always been about accuracy and how far I can push my skills with the right equipment. Back in my PB days I was able to put 5 inside an 8" circle at 1000 yards when I had my zen going. The last time I was able to do that was with a club I belonged to up at West Point NY back in the late 90's. I had been shooting from 100 out to 500 yards at paper with 7mm Remington Magnums Hand loaded 180 gr boat tails . My ex brother in-law was spotting for me 3 rounds to zero and 5 on the bull 3 others saw the magic happen . I will say that is why I love the power and the accuracy when I shoot anything.

Well...ok...as long as it's for festivus. ;D
-
Dam them are great groups for 50 and 80 yds 8)
-
that image isn't 50 & 80, it's 10 or 20 5 shots each starting at 200 bar (not much difference between the two and not related to the shot string I posted) don't remember what it ended at. 250 bar fill should yield more shots with minimum POA drop. (correct terminology this time) *LOL*
just have to decide what to buy before the next.
airwolf MCT high power .22
wolverine B .22
fx 400 .177
RAW hm1000 .177
impact gsx200 .22
Bsa r10 mk2 .22
the .22 is starting to grow on me.
-
20(typo) 10 yards inside. 5 shots each circle first holdover mildot at top center of the circles, why it started hitting right I have no clue but it is what it is.
filled to 250 bar shot down to 70bar. reading gauge to the best of my ability as it's limited in numbers.

Grady, I don't doubt you one bit. I've seen first hand the accuracy from my Daystates and they amaze me for an off the shelf rifle. I'm like you, I just grab a pellet from the can and shoot. Now they just need to build an electronic Wolverine in . 25 and a Wolverine Hi-lite in. 35. They would be sweet!!!!
-
corrected a typo last post but still wouldn't be much difference. but yes, would like to see a mct version of the woverine. ever since seeing the video of the pigeons being hit and that big puff of dust I was like I need that.*LOL*
There's one thing that's for sure, and that is you definately get what you pay for with a daystate. the harper valve, slingshot system, map technology.
you have to give credit where credit is due when you put out a .22 that generates as much power and accuracy as some .25's out the box.
as for the doubters, not much I can do about that.*LOL*
if i were to get a hi-lite, I would have to dress the bottle with a sock or something, I don't like all the text on the cf bottle, it distracts from the lines of the rifle.
well, I
I'll see in the next month or two which two rifles I'll buy, all I know is one will be a daystate and the other a FX
-
found this air ranger .223 80 ft.lb holy madness.
is this a beefed up .22 or something special from daystate?

.223 cal shooting bullets, not pellets.... That combination is used a lot in Europe, particularly Holland, for shooting 100 yard benchrest outdoors.... Top gun is usually the Sinner, running about 100 FPE with 41 gr. RWS bullets.... basically .22LR target velocity performance with an airgun.... I have no idea if that's a one-of Custom or a Daystate prototype....
Bob
-
I'm still amazed how some of these rifles generate so much power. makes my collection look like pea shooters.
I've seen a vids of a beumonts and sinners shooting over 100 yards and it was amazing. loud but amazing.
it's a path I best avoid for now.
-
You can get 100 FPE in .22 cal on 3000 psi, my Hayabusa has done 106, and gets 20 shots at 94 FPE on a fill, 13 of which are within a 2% ES.... Most of the guns used for those 100 meter matches (110 yd.) are tethered.... If I tether my gun at 2900 psi I can tune it for 100 FPE with decent efficiency.... right around 1 FPE/CI.... I use the 41.3 gr. RWS bullets and it shoots them tethered at 1045 fps.... I just wish I had more time to tune it up accuracy-wise, it's not quite at MOA right now.... The record is something like 17 mm (0.67") for 5 shots at 100 M....
Bob

very tempting but I better stick to the ting ting versions and avoid another spending spree. or look for a used air ranger 50 and mess with that.
