Title: New R9 .177
Post by: wimpanzee on December 17, 2014, 02:55:53 PM
I just got my new R9 (elite combo with the bushnell scope) in .177 via Fedex this morning (I love the early deliveries!), and after about 150 shots, I love it!

I had one previously in .22, that I sent back to PA, because I couldn't get a decent group out of it, but this one is getting .5" groups at 28 yards offhand pretty easy - and that's just to start!

Now I am just waiting to get some baracudas and exacts (waiting on UPS for those...) today to really check out the accuracy.

Only .177 pellets I have right now are RWS superdomes 8.3gr (terrible groups) and Crosman Premier 10.5 in a box. Superdomes chrony at 935, and Premiers around 810 - both getting 15-16 FPE.

Congrats on that.
That's the next gun on my acquire list. I would have it already, if PA allowed coupons on it.

Beautiful rifle that will only get better with more lead!!!
Super domes were also terrible in my 98.
I have a feeling she will LOVE the Exacts!! Mine shoots them like a laser!!
Enjoy!!!

Well, I am definitely used to bench shooting my marauder - my offhand needs some work!

However, with the JSB Exacts, I was able to hold a 10 ring 7/10 shots offhand, and hit all 8 spinners in a row!

My fingers went numb from the cold, or I would be out testing the baracudas right now...

What a gorgeous stock ! You may be one proud owner indeed !

And yes, you probably will achieve the best results with the JSB's, especially the 4,52 is generally quite a match with HW barrels...

Will you tune the rifle or do you keep it stock for now ?

Thanks! I am very proud!

I'll probable keep it stock for now. I anticipate a PG2 down the road at some point, but I'll have to save some more $$ for that :)

Congratulations on the new R9.   My R9's are without a doubt my favorite 2 springers in my collection, I just love them to death..

Cold? I just went outside and it is not cold. I am wearing a t-shirt and the weather is great. :)

Hey Wimpanzee I have the exact same gun and scope as you.  Just bought the Bushnell from Cabelas to replace the 3-9x32 Leapers I had on it.  The Leapers was ok but I wanted a little more power for target shooting at 30 yards.  My gun likes the H&N FTT 8.64 gr. and the JSB 8.44.

Never liked you Jesse!!!
I have 2 propane heaters, one on each side of my bench, and foot warmers in my boots each time I shoot!!!

Awesome. Many R9s, including mine, do very well with CPLs.
I have had many fancier rifles, but the R9 is the one I have kept.
Enjoy!

Seems all my .177 SPRINGERS like 8.4 air arms.
