They are made in the same factory as regular Ak rifles. They are patterned after the AK 74 or AK 103 series rifles.
The valve, co2, and BB's are all housed within the magazine. The mags are modified AK mags with the feed lips removed.

Are they available in the United States and are they select fire?

Semi auto only and all items made by Kalashnikov concern are currently under UN embargo. They are not importable into the USA or Canada currently.

Thank paddy!
As you know I have a Drozd so that made me aware of the embargo (and it has been on the news) but that is one cool BB gun. I am hoping someone cranks out another really nice select fire BB gun soon and if one was full sized like your AK that would be even better.
My Drozd had issues shooting the lead .177 balls so I had in converted to steel BB's only.

Would be easy for one of the airsoft companies to make one, or for Umarex to fit their steel force guts into a AK shell.
-
A few were imported to the states years ago along with markarov pistols, the batf had a fit because they used the real arms receivers

Those were early models.
Tula was converting surplus pistols into airguns. Baikal makes purpose built ones that are very similar in construction to real Maks but would need a lot of machining to try to convert.

IIRC there are a few of these floating around but because they used what amounted to a real or very easily convertible firearm receiver they fell under BATFE regulation.
-
Or I could read the post above............

Really not much to an Ak receiver. You can buy flats to make them for 25.00, or just use a shovel http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/threads/179192-DIY-Shovel-AK-photo-tsunami-warning (http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/threads/179192-DIY-Shovel-AK-photo-tsunami-warning)!.
Not sure why governments worry so much about people converting expensive bb guns into real firearms. Easier and cheaper to do from scratch.

I have a Romanian Pioner II that has been described as a "tomato stake" gun, because that's all it's good for. If you can use a gun for gardening, then it follows that a shovel could be a gun. Perfectly natural. Thanks for the link.
