Learn by my mistake. This weekend I decided to shoot the B26.22 a little. It is set up with a short range zero 10 to 20 yards. I was shooting the 20 yard target from my upper deck and was doing real well. Then I saw this nice shiny knot in the Pine tree straight out from me about 10 yards. Popped in the RWS Superdome, took aim pulled the trigger and pow I am seeing stars. The pellet his that knot dead center and came back almost dead center hitting me right in the forehead just above my brows. Got me a little cut a big bump and blood blister. Good thing it hit me or I would have lost a window that was right behind me :-\ . The core wood in the knot was barely dented. I had been shooting the knots at the 30 yard tree with the other guns for months and never heard a ricochet or second hit at any time. My advice is leave them close up knots alone and wear your eye protection.

Yea, as much as safety glasses can be a pain, losing your sight in an eye is many times worse! Thanks for the reminder!

Same, I've had ricochet right back at me from golf balls at 25 yards..Always have eye protection but I do worry about those windows! ::)
Glad to hear your wounds will heal and your sight is intact. X2 on the thanks for the warning - Remember all...it CAN happen to YOU (put your eye out, don't ya know).
-
You could have shot your eye out! ;) Glad it didn't !

When I was about 13, (a mere 40 years ago), my mate had a .22 BSA. We were shooting a metal target holder at about 15 yards. He needed to go to the bathroom and it was my turn to shoot. Being 13, extremely smart, and wildly cunning I snuck up tight to the target, popped the sight on the bulls eye and fired. I felt this "thwack" between my eyes just above the bridge of the nose. We all know what it was... The sad thing was, I missed the darned bull!!!! When my mate came out he knew immediately what happened and I got it worse for the fact that I missed...
40 years ago... Eye protection... Yeah, right... Our eyes were bulletproof glass back then... You young'uns are soft... ;)

Yep, like bumper pool....had that happen to me way back when....at that time my bro and I were shooting a bb/pellet rifle (Crosman 760) and we were shooting bb's. We stuck a paper target onto a board and shot at it....one of those shots binged me right in the forehead.
Now...I always wear some sort of glasses to protect the eyes and if we shoot at boards...we place them a bit slanted away.
Glad you didn't get hurt seriously....or broke a window.
-
I'm glad you didn't get hurt, but the window is the first thing I would have been concerned about because that would be amunition for the wife to say......"see!"
-
Wow I never would have though a knot hole in a tree would be hard enough to ricochet a pellet back. Man ya got lucky on that one. Was bout to say you dodged a bullet but yeah it got ya. lol Good thing it was only a bump and blood blister.
I think the only real answer to this though is to buy a more powerful gun and pay that knot hole back! ;D
-
We'll have to rename you Ralphie! ;D Close call. Those knots shoot back. Glad you're OK.
-
youngun, I am 48 gull dern it!

I would be more worry about the window today.
Coldest winter storm of the year is happen right now. With on window, I would freeze to dead. Dead men don’t need eyes.
I always buy safety glasses for my prescription glasses. Never know when something is going to fly into your eye.
Glad to hear you only got a small battle wond Dmike.

Well I'll see your "gull-dern-it" and raise you a "dag-nabbit"! Plus I'll call with a "whipper-snapper"! I'll be 61 next Tuesday! ;D

1377 vs. pine 2x4 at 10' has the same effect, only with much less trauma to the forehead. Glad you're ok. I always wear glasses when shooting indoors at close range since then!

it must have been b26-2 accident day... working on the trigger yesterday, i made it to light. while cocking it and holding the barrel to feel the let off point i had the barrel slip from my hand... bent narrel and the ususa crack on the pistol grip... sigh. it took me so long to find a b26... now i got to start all over again... be careful...
-
lillysdad621, Your gun is fixable. The wrist crack is easy and you can bend that barrel back or get an adjustable mount.
The pistol grip is drill out from inside and epoxy in a hardwood dowel. Refinish the stock after and it will be better than before.

the stock i can do no prob... but bending the barrel back??? how?
-
Yep...it can happen at any time from short range. I'm 52, and havent been struck directly in the face, but I've taken some rikoshays in the shoulders, chest, and legs. The last one whizzed past my right ear and went into my sweatshirt hood. None of the rikoshays caused any pain, but I sure wouldn't want one in my eye. From now on I'm wearing some safety glasses. I've been hanging the glasses on my back door gunz so there's no excuse.
The one that whizzed past my ear was the result of me shooting at some wood that was about 15 yrds away, and I guess it hit a hard spot, because they always stuck in before.
It comes down to a real serious note...I really dont want to lose or injure one of my eyes.
Its such an easy thing to do, that is put on some safety glasses.

I saw a jig somewhere, (Kind think it was Charlie Da Tuna). Had a big Eye Bolt in the middle of a sturdy plank, with a block of wood on each end. You feed the barrel through the eye bolt (use a bike inner tube to protect finish) support both ends on the blocks with the bow to the top (known as a crown) and tighten the eye bolt down. Look through the barrel and you will be able to see if it is straight or not if you have something white on the other end to reflect the light. I understand you must go past straight slightly to get it right. If I bent my gun I would do this to get it back to B26 goodness.
-
i'll give it a shot... it looks like the breech is also slightly misdirected.... the top tube and barrel are not in line, but the breech follows the barrel. I can see any separation at the bottom part where the breech meets the air port.
-
lillysdad621, you know it probably would not be real costly to just call Mike Melick at Best Airguns and see if he has a Barrel and block. Then you could just tinker with the bent one at your leisure. call him or send him an email he does more for his customers than most ever would do.
-
if i call him i'm gonna end up with a brand new b26-1... i know me...lol

Red neck Term>>>>>Smart Knot<<<<<< B smart not to do that again!!
