On the front of the receiver tube the hole that releases the air to the barrel.
If I enlarge that orifice will the air push the pellet any better?

No ... that hole and it's size are CALIBRATED so the compressed air under the piston DOES NOT exit too fast.
If you open it the piston will quite likely SMASH into the roof of compression chamber having potential for a rougher shot cycle and ultimate damage to the rifles mechanics over time.
 The R9 platform is a VERY VERY well balanced power system and altering it will IMO screw it up !!

I read something about that on an air gun long time ago couldn't remember much about it. Just thought I would ask.
