Title: remington vantage NP barrel lock up?
Post by: ignantmike on December 08, 2014, 06:55:49 PM
hello, I noticed today that if I push at the end of the barrel downward "like to cock the gun".....not straight down.....the barrel moves away from the breech about 1/16"......is this normal?.....I tightened up the barrel screw...it still does it.....never noticed it before....but, I can't remember if I ever tried it either......

Normally when cocked, the barrel latches into position.  I've never played with a Remington but Crosman and Diana lock into place pretty firmly.  In fact Crosman says in their instructions you may have to slap the barrel to move it out of the latched position.

If your pivot screw is too tight it can prevent consistent latching but in my experience the barrel should be held firmly in place.

Check your latching mechanism.  It may be sticking and not firmly engaging.  It could be dirty or needing lubed.

The first few degrees of barrel opening are pushing against the alive jam spring.  Once you get past that point the barrel will stay in that slightly open position.  This is normal for most break barrel rifles.
