I have a couple nice rifles and I am very happy I did not get the R1 first. Reason being it would have been a let down. Do not get me wrong, I love all my rifles (even my CZ 631). It is just the fact the R1 is becoming my favorite rifle. The other rifles have their place. I love the stock and accuracy of my R11, the TX200 was my first spring piston quality rifle, my FWB sport has a feel about it that I can not explain. The R1 on the other hand is 10 years older than my daughter 20 years younger than my wife, and doesn't complain as much as either of them. :)

As I've said before, your taste in rifles is fickle. :D

Sir, I do not understand. Fickle? I just like nice rifles. Right now I am broke, so another rifle seems to be a long time away, but I think when I do start looking again it will be an older model Benjamin 397. :)
Come to think of it I might be spoiled, maybe I will sell my Harley, buy an older model VW Bug and with the rest of the money get some more air rifles and pellets. LOL

Jesse,
Look at the list.
Soon a new (to me) RWS48.
The R1 has been with me since 1984.
It is in the will.
Motorhead installed a VORTEK kit.
After nearly 300,000 pellets.
It will never leave my cold dead hands.
;)

If you can't be with the one you love. Love the one your with! 8)

Hey booger, I think you may have a biased opinion. Why not bring it to my place and we will shoot them and I can give you a unbiased opinion on all of them. Of course if I cant decide in one day you may need to leave them for say........ couple of months to really get the feel of them all. And I will not charge you any thing, not a penny.

I have discussed it with my wife about a visit, we can shoot and our wives can complain about us. :) My youngest might want to tag along. ;)

The mighty R1 was my childhood dream. I was almost 30 before i got one. I think i have shot the R1 more than any other gun in my life.
Thats sayin something as i once was a service rifle competitor for the army, spent 5 years in law enforcement. And have been thru 8 sniper schools.
Of everything i have logged rounds thru, the R1 STILL captivates my imagination and brings joy with every shot sequence.
Today i have 3 vintage R1s!

;D My rifles are my toys and relaxation whether I shoot or tinker when I have one in my hands they get my undivided attention. At the end of the day they are really tools with me if the tool is no longer useful to me I will sell it and find another for the job . Last year I sold my M1A1 Garrand which was used by me in competitions back in the late 60's and early 70's . The $2,800 that I got has helped me to finance some of the nicer AG's that I shoot every day in my back yard and basement. Unfortunately the Garrand had become a safe queen due to the cost of ammo thus no longer useful to me and I have other rifles better suited to big game :D that's just me

Great thread. I really agree about he powder burners and the cost of shooting. I sold some stuff to buy my RAW. I shoot in my backyard daily and really enjoy it.

Yes, I see your point. I am broke too. Seems like a common theme with this affliction. :'(
But, I think you may have a finer stable of guns than I, and your pooch is smiling, while mine looks just a little confused. ;D

;) Kim your pooch looks confused because it is still young, Jesse's pup is older and wiser than the owner . Mine on the other hand is a spoiled 14 lb poodle who will not go out in the dark unless I turn on the yard light ;D ;D ;D

I sold a Jaques of London chess set to get my guns (I use to play in tournaments). The only reason she is smiling is because she showed up on my doorstep starving, and I took her in. (My German Shepherd had just died and I was morning his death).

Interesting story about your M1! I started out with a .177 R9 and really liked the gun but decided that I needed a "fixed barrel" for my field target competition so I bought one a couple decades ago. I found that the HW77k I bought was indeed a bit easier to shoot accurately than my lighter weight R9, but the HW77 sat unused in it's case for all but upper level field target matches since it was heavier than I liked for general plinking, plus there was too much "arm waving" required and gun weight for squirrel hunting in the WV woods where I lived at the time. I found that even for field target I usually took my R9 for the matches so last year I sold the "77" and now only own/use my .177 R9 for all airgun shooting. My springers are simply kept for shooting and it just didn't make sense for me to keep one that got used less than 10% of the time!

Good things come to those that wait. Like your guns, she looks like a rare find.

Nothing like taking a dog in and giving it a loving home. We have a mutt that we took because no one wanted him. He is now a part of the family.

Do not worry my friend, I have had a lot of guns come and go, but this one will stay with me. If I ever find a Beeman San Rafael and I have the cash she too will be in my collection. If I learned anything it is I actually think I prefer the older Beeman/HW guns more.

My dog is half Great Pyrenees half Black Lab, we see her parents running around the neighborhood. It is a shame that people have puppies and do not take care of them and do not worry about spaying or neutering. They offer it free for up to 2 dogs and 2 cats in my county.
