For Rocky and Rodger out to 25yd? What do we think?
-
If talking the AR receiver retrofit ... Better platforms to be had for same coinage IMO
-
I cheated accidently and got one to send a 7.9g .177 over 1000fps...
to much plastic to live up to its potential...
so after it gets problems from use make it into something else...
-
Scott, it sounds like you're talking about the crosman AR upper. Kirby, I'm not really sure what you're talking about. I hear good things about the mk177 pumper and think I might get one for my niece. So, what do you think?

one thing I did not like is that my rear site was not made properly... plus I do not like what putting sights that high does to a short range gun any ways...
I do not know how it will hold up to normal use I abused mine a little and it lost accuracy...
but the pump and valve 8) 8) 8)

I turned it into an MK1322, was the plan from the start and was hoping for 20+ fpe (and got it 8) )
Because it uses a large valve I feel at 14-16 pumps it is still lightly stressed giving 700-750 fps, push it a bit hard (20 pumps)to get 805 fps with 14.3 CPHP

Its $40 and fun to shoot, but Kirby and I both have experienced similar issues. Its actually pretty accurate but POI can suddenly shift and stay in one place for awhile then shift back again later. I'm still trying to sort that out.
Kirby took it to a whole nuther level with his mods.
So far if modding is your thing, make a replacement extended bolt tip ( see Kirby post ) stuff the piston and shim the cup for power and efficiency. Tie the barrel to the pump tube with a cable tie or tape to eleviate shifting POI.
I like shooting mine and for $40 off Pyramyd or Amerzone it was worth it but for 25yd Rocky's or nutters or chipmunks, I go with one of my long barrel scoped 2289g.

That does sound problematic, thanks. Any more thoughts on what guns would fit my criteria w/o being too heavy for an 11y/o girl?

still think a 1377 with a shoulder stock is the best option. I have one set up in .22 and retained the open sights... got a little lcd to keep it on the hush hush and with basic mods i get 475 fps with 14.2 gr daisy wadcutters... it stacks them at 20 yards and has been proven on nutters out to 20. Im sure a chipmunk will not stand a chance as the wadcutters impart their energy very efficiently. But a .177 will do just the same. do not give up on the original sights. everyone runs to get a metal receiver... unless you are scoping it it will do just fine...

... but i do like that MK177... I think that the stock performance is ok out to 20 or 25 yards... use a heavy pellet and make sure the the barrel is solidly mounted (so it does not shift while pumping)... and still use the open sights or better yet, mount a red dot. I thought about getting one and keeping it in the truck for impromptu little safaris (during lunch... or after work...) but been seen with an "assault Rifle" threw the woods by accident would not be good... so i stick to the 13xx platform. The whole setup fits in a little possibles bag (ex us army claymore bag...) that looks like a hiker or bird watcher pouch...

... and lest not forget the mighty daisy powerline 880... enough power, and light, very light.

Don't leave the Crosman 664gt out of the running either. Rifled barrel, 5 shot pellet clip and easy pumping. This is what I started my S-Daughter on.

What kind of groups does it get? Does it have a lot of flex?
