Title: Pistol Scope on Disco??
Post by: Ol'DeadEye on November 27, 2014, 09:31:48 AM
I've been thinking I would like to try a pistol scope on my Disco for short range shooting in the backyard.

I think the long eye relief coupled with the low-to-no magnification would be a good substitute for a red-dot sight.

It would eliminate the large, obstructing dot on cheap red-dot sights and eliminate the battery/on-off concerns.

I want to keep the loading area clear of obstructing tubes for quicker reloads, plus my fingers are clumsy because of arthritis.

I'm thinking of a scout style scope with no objective bell to keep the scope close to the bore.

I'm currently using a peep sight but my old man eyes are struggling with open sights.

Anyone ever try it ?   Opinions ?

Don't see why not. You might want to check out the center point 2 x 20 pistol scope. It has a pretty small objective bell. I have one on my 1377 and I'm quite pleased with it. Best of all,  it's only 50.00 through pyramid air.

Do make sure it is a "scout" scope not a true "pistol" scope and you may still need offset rings (BKL?) for proper eye reliefe, it certainly would be a better choice than a low cost red-dot though a "good" red dot would be outstanding.
John

actually, the CP has a pretty wide range of eye relief. 9-21 inches. i shoot mine from a benched position with about 11 inches between my eye and the objective lens.

I decided to give the CenterPoint Pistol Scope a try .
2X power with eye relief of 20".  I assume that means maximum.
I'll mount it on an offset mount to gain a little eye relief.
If that isn't enough, I'll try an AF TriRail that I have laying around.

Time will tell.

I was looking at pistol scopes for my Disco but bought a NIKON prostaff 3-9x40 rimfire scope with a 50 yard parallax.

I wanted a simple, fixed low magnification long eye relief scope with no battery.
Nothing to go wrong.
Short distance, back yard starling killer.
I also wanted to keep the breech area clear for easier loading.
I have long range guns with good scopes, but get tired of fiddling with adjustments.
I would stay with  the open sights, but my vision is getting worse.
Maybe this year I'll qualify for corrective lense implants to fix my cataracts.

Well, here it is.  For better or worse...

I used the AF TriRail to move the scope forward.
Centerpoint Pistol Scope on low/medium rings.
Rock solid mount.
Seems to fall right to my eye with a somewhat upright head position,
I'll sight-in tomorrow and then try it out in the yard.

So, Tom, how did the CP scope work out? I am having the same problem.

My original try wasn't too successful due to my poor vision.
I'm currently having my cataracts removed and my vision corrected.
They did my left eye first, so it will be about another  month until I can retry the Disco setup.
I have a 2 week checkup on my left eye today and hopefully will be able to schedule my right eye for two weeks from now.
So I'm still shooting my scoped rifles.
93 dead starlings so far this year, hoping to hit 100 before the cold weather fades away and the starlings disappear.
I'll post something when the final answer is in.

Hope your vision improves. I lost my right eye to a acid burn in 95. I still shoot right handed by mounting my scopes high as you did in the picture.

I wish you good luck with the check up today, and the surgery on the right eye.  Sight is very precious to me.
