first post here so.... lets go!
the other day, my idiot brother got me these crosman SSP's.(unlike others, i dont buy into that hyper-velocity pellet cr@p.) i specificallly told him to get me some crosman pointeds. >:( oh well, they were only $2.00 anyway. so i try to test them in all aspects to se how good they are. i am shooting though the crosman 1377 air pistol with carbine stock.

FIRST GLANCE:
these pellets are wadcutters with a dent in it. i dont know why crosman gets away with this. they weigh 4.0 grains, and are longer than other types of pellets. in addition, the are also notoriusly fragile. the skirt could be bent without any marking left on the fingers unlike the lead pellets.
PENETRATION TEST:
I shot a phonebook to see how well they could penetrate. the pointed went though 390 pgs doing damage to 500 pgs. the SSP's penetrated 49 pages, doing damage to 200 pages. not very good.
POWER TEST:
the power test was a test i came up with to determine the power levels. i shot a wax candle to see how much damage the pellet there was. the pointed penetrated deep, cracking the candle badly. the SSP pellet barely penetrated, and left a small white spot form the pellet impact. that shows the FPE is very low, expected for 4.0 grain pellets.
ACCURACY TEST:
here is the test that matters! i shot offhand at 5 yards at a "1 grid target.

groups were about as big as the tin, bad.
the skirts are are very badly dented and scratched.

this was another test at about 6 yards-still offhand.

OVERALL:
these pellets not so good. they are not for hunting at all, as i used them earlier today to hunt for squirrel and starlings. i had shot two starlings and they flew away, and i had shot a squirrel in the shoulder with it, it got away with a hole in its fur, with no blood. pointed gave squirrels a death sentence if i did my part. and they are very dangerous if shooting at wood, one came back and hit me in the face, i now have a small circle of exposed flesh in addition to an early stage of acne.

At least you have an airgun that allows you to shoot them without fear of damage, but I'm unaware of any type of hyper velocity pellet that performs well on game or has decent accuracy.
They're little more than a novelty item, and not even worth the money for plinking.

i cant belive that they reccomend this stuff for hunting anything larger than a bird.
