Title: BSA 6x24x44 Tactical mil dot (Midway exclusive)
Post by: SpiralGroove on November 21, 2014, 03:02:23 AM
Hey Guys,
Got the scope today, had to sneak it off the front porch so the Wife & Kids didn't notice (I'm getting good at this -> clear signs of addiction) ::)
First Impressions:
1) The scope is long...........w/sunshade even longer-->
2) The Scope is Heavy....................
3) The Scope has "ungainly" lines vs. a Hawke or Leapers (gloss black looks bad)
4) The Weaver type scope rings don't fit my BAM B50 -> oh nuts I could have ordered ones that would work days ago :P
5) The Glass looks GOOD and I love the reticle !!   ------->

Will know more when the new rings come Monday.  Whatever I don't like about the scope can be overcome by great function ;)

My pretty critical...... Two Cents :o

Haha, told ya  ;D

It's a sweet scope for the money.  The etched reticle and the glass are really nice.  Stomps a mudhole in the Leapers 3-12x44 that was about the same price.

Hey Everyone,
Got my 30mm rings today, they are medium, UTG Accushot (11mm) mounts.  Ideally they would be high mounts as the scope almost interferes with the brass (cocking) bolt on my BAM B50.
Scope:
1) Have only used at 12 yards, but already LOVE IT !!!
2) Has 10 yard parallax ;D  Yes..............(most Hawke's and Leapers' in 4x12x44 or larger have a 15 yard minimum).
3) Very Happy so far..............love the reticle.
4) Thanks Nervoustrigger - you were right on! 8)

any idea how it compares to a 30mm SWAT leapers or a hawke varmint on equal magnification ?

Ya the price is back down.....just bought one!  A day or so ago it was back up to over $200.00.  I had a couple of simmons 44 mags on my marauders that I sold and gonna put this on.  If I like it I may pick up a few more.

Hey D14jeff,
I have no idea how it compares, but leapers tend to be heavier & Hawke's a little lighter. I can't imagine a scope being better (viewing or reticle) unless it went for $200+ discounted (of course I'm guessing here).  My only beef with the BSA is weight.  However, all 30mm variable scopes are heavy, surprisingly, this is one of the lighter ones :o.  The Hawke Sidewinders ($350/$450) are massively heavy.
Enough said, except don't use on a Springer.

This scope is definitely a couple steps up from the BSA 6-24x40mm target scope that my dad has mounted on the Discovery.  I happen to have the Discovery at my place and compared to the two in low light conditions at full magnification and WOW it's a big difference!  The target scope is much dimmer.  It's not one of those situations where you have to look a couple times to make sure.  BSA put better glass in this model for sure!

Seriously considering getting this, but does anyone have any leads to low profile 30mm scope rings that'll fit on 11mm dovetails (not Weaver or Picatinny)? The higher breech allows for low profile rings, and I like to run my scope as close to the bore as possible.

My AT-44's Weaver grooves are just off enough to where if I use one, it prevents the magazine from loading in (as the ring sticks out just a hair over the cutout), so I need regular-style ones.

Googling isn't seeming to help much, but maybe I'm just not doing it right.  :o

Hey Speedly,
Have the BSA 6x24x44 mounted on my Hatsan AT44 and BAM B50.  The BAM pretty much requires you use high mounts (using UTG 30mm, 11mm -  $12.95).  You can get away with med. mounts (BAM), but it's hard to load effectively.
The AT44 works fine with the UTG (med.), 30mm, 11 mm mount, but the high mounts would definitely give more room for magazine changes.  Hence, IMHO, your choice on the AT44.

I got one of these recently, it's on the way. I'm waiting on the big brown truck quite eagerly!

How many dots does it have in each direction from the reticle? I know, I know, it's on its way... but I wanna knooooooowwwwww!  ;D

You made a fine choice  8)

There are four dots in each direction.

I'm tempted to try their ffp scope on midway, I have the 6-24 on my mrod.. Not bad for a budget optic.

See, now, there'd better be actual liquid in my pants or I'm gonna call you a sham.  ::)

Also, I assume it's true at 10x (much like other scopes)?

Yeah Speedly,
It adheres to the Military standard between 100 and 1000 yards.
Here are the pages from the owners manual on the scopes use of Mil-Dot Reticle.

Just FYI, this manual appears to say the scope is true at 9x, not 10x.

I just mounted mine on my marauder.  I went with medium hawke mounts and not enough clearance for the mag..arggggh!  I can use the single shot tray till I get other mounts.

The optics are VERY crisp and clear.  Adjustments are all smooth with all clicks easily felt.  I am REALLY impressed and getting another one.  Thanx for the heads up on this scope!

Yeah Speedly,
I didn't know how to answer your question :P.  I went to the manual it looked like it was about 7.5x (between 7x/8x), but I still wasn't sure.  Hence, I went with the standard & copied the manual so you could look.

Don't you hate it when people spread misinformation like "the shorts thing"?

Oops..............Kirk

Finally, it arrived.

Good:
- Yardage markers on the side focus appear to be dead on. Ranged objects until clear with the scope, read the yardage, and then confirmed with a laser rangefinder.

- Side focus makes it so the front AO clearance is no longer a concern.

- Reticle is very clear.

- Scope has a very nice field of view, especially as compared to my other scopes that are noticeably cheaper.

- Picture is very clear, even at 24x. Put it in a worst-case scenario by putting on the sunshade at night and focusing in on an object with poor lighting. Still was able to see the picture clearly.

Negatives (so far):
- Resetting zero has you pulling the entirety of the knob off and putting it back on. Not terrible, but unsettling the first time as your brain goes "OH GOD YOU JUST GOT IT AND NOW IT'S BROKEN."

- I wish the reticle has more dots in it. 5 dots limits the scope's ability to shoot long range.

- 30mm tube is a little harder to find rings for (not drastically, only a little harder).

Haven't taken it shooting yet, but I'll add to this as I take it out.

Hey Speedly,
It sounds like there was "fear" of bladder control loss, right up to the point of the lack of Mil Dot's issue?
I think Resetting the Zero may have caused you to lay on the couch for a few minutes.

Same experience I had !!!  For different reasons......................

Just wait, when you wake up tomorrow, you're gonna accept the flaws and LOVE It  !!! ;)

My Two Cents......................

It's true.  I've had mine for about 9 months, and with each new scope I have an opportunity to use, the more I appreciate the BSA!  Some being 3x the price.
