Title: drilling rear tube plug on a 2289 for a home made wire stock ???
Post by: D14Jeff on November 15, 2014, 02:40:40 PM
i want to take a shot at making a rear stock so i don't have to take off the wood grips on my pumper to use it as a carbine sometimes . i was thinking of using a piece of all-thread with aluminium tubing over it to try to make it purdy , maybe use some tape along the all-thread to keep the tube centered . i was thinking a piece of 1 or 1 1/2 inch wide 1/8 inch thick aluminum strip dropping down for the shoulder rest (secured with a acorn nut) and attaching piece of gel pad on it . but is it better to drill a hole in the rear tube plug and tap it for the all thread .... or just drill the hole and use a thin nut inside to secure it . i'm not interested in it serving double duty as a power adjuster . any tips to keeping it straight so the stock isn't cocked ? or just get it as straight as i can and adjust for straightness using elbow grease ?

i'm cheap/poor and like to tinker ....... in no way could i pay/invest $100 or more into an adapter and stock .  i figure i can make it for about $15 to $20 for the materials . i've got my modded 1399 stock , but i want to leave the wood grips on ......

thanks

To drill a straight, concentric hole what you really want is a lathe, but you can use a drill press to at least make it straight. You can eyeball the center, and it'll be as close to concentric as you'll ever need.
