Title: .250 cal cast bullets?
Post by: blackdiesel on November 10, 2014, 10:39:47 PM
Anyone know if there are any besides the Carson Rat Snipers available or anyone that makes molds for this caliber?

RCBS # 57902, .25 ACP round nose.... Casts at just under 53 gr. in pure lead.... To be truthful, I've never had great success with it, though, hard to get perfect bases, the sprue plate holes are too large, IMO.... I think PakProtector has an obsolete mold he uses in .250 cal with decent results.... Then, of course there is my .250 cal Bob's Boattail 52 gr. available from Veral at LBT under mold # 25-52-BST....

Do these work in your Hatsan AT44 long?  Can you give me a link please?

Just a bit too long for the magazine, unfortunately.... However, you could have Veral shorten the boattail slightly to make it short enough to fit.... It was designed for a 14" twist, and will work up to 16" at the original length.... I don't know what twist the Hatsan barrel is.... If it is slower than 16", shortening the bullet will help it to work.... and shortening the boattail in particular as that has a twofold effect on stability....

There is one of the members here who purchased a shortened BBT mold for his Hatsan but I never heard how it worked out.... Perhaps he will chime in.... You can't order LBT molds online, but you can print off an order form.... http://www.lbtmolds.com/ (http://www.lbtmolds.com/) .... My boattails are not, as yet, in his catalogue, but I gave you the order number above.... You would need to specify the LOA you want, and give Veral instruction to shorten the bullet at the back.... You can also specify the diameter you want, and the alloy you will be using.... I would suggest pure lead with not more than 2.5% tin.... I use 1% and the bullets cast at just under 51 gr at full length (0.455")....

Ok.  I may just try the Beeman extra heavy 31 gr pellets.  My BT65 like the JSB 25 gr pellets but it's shooting them in the high 900 fps and I'm getting more frisbees  than I like when shooting more than 100 yards.  My old gun liked the 27 gr Benjamin domes but this one don't seem to like them that much.  I get at least 1 flyer every 9 round mag I shoot at 25 yards.

I replaced the BT65 with a Sumatra so I can use longer bullets now.  So I should be able to order the mold without any modifications.  Are your mold available at Accurate Mold also?
