Title: Software chrony's?
Post by: wknight on November 09, 2014, 05:00:14 PM
Does anyone know if these are accurate enough?

Been playing with a free one I downloaded from the Android Playstore.  The one I'm using is Chrono Connect Lite Mobile.  The Pro version is only $3.85.  Gives a few more features of course.  The software allows you to set several parameters:
Muzzle to target
Device to target
Device to pellet path
Pellet weight
Pellet shape
Ballistic coefficient

Any way I'm using a Crosman Optimus in .22

With Crosman Premier HP 14.3 grains in weight it shows consistently about 804FPS.  This is with the phone set 10 yards from the muzzle.  I know it should be closer to get a more accurate reading at the muzzle but just playing with it for now.

Same setup but using Gamo TS-22 I'll get around 629FPS but every once in a while it will jump to 849FPS.

At 20 yards both pellet's seem to be hitting in the same area no matter what velocity comes up on the phone.  I'm wanting to use this pellet rifle in conjunction with a 22LR for shooting squirrels.  I have read someplace that 22 grain pellets would destroy the spring or piston of the rifle.  They seem to work very well, especially at distance.  I was shooting an aluminum can at about 32 yards yesterday.  One of the TS-22's was caught by the top rim and was torn cleanly off.  Looked pretty neat.  The top looked like a fortune cookie with the pellet caught in it.

I have not really done any mods or tuning other than a small washer on the trigger. No creep and the release is very predictable.  Did not try anything to even make it a hair trigger.  It easily passed the bump test for the safety.  Could not pull the trigger when the safety was engaged either.  Just not ready to invest in a better trigger yet.  Maybe when I get a piston or PCP.
